Matatabi (又旅, Matatabi), more commonly known as the Two – Tails (ニ尾, Nibi), is one of the nine tailed beasts. Originally a inhabitant of the Hidden Cloud Village during the founding of villages to the peaceful era established by Naruto Uzumaki the Seventh Hokage (七代目火影, Nanadaime Hokage, literally meaning: Seventh Fire Shadow), free to live how it wants thanks to him and everyone who fought valiantly Fourth Shinobi World War has proven her that humans can change, humans are passionate and caring towards them, like Yugito Nii the previous Jinchuriki who showed to respect Matatabi as a living and emotional being than a weapon.

Background[]

and the tailed beasts first came into being in the waning days of Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, who used his Creation of All Things Technique to divide the Ten-Tails’ chakra into nine separate bodies and give each a name. Sometime after being created, the Sage explained to the young tailed beasts that a link existed between them despite their separation. He also foretold of a day when they would be brought together again – though not as they were – and that at that time someone would emerge to show them what true power is. In the anime, before his death, Hagoromo sent Matatabi to live in a temple built for the purpose of protecting it in a canebrake region. Over time, many people came to believe that Matatabi, like Shukaku, was once a human that turned into a living ghost (生霊, ikiryō). During her time with her jinchuriki; Yugito Nii of Kumogakure, she was sealed into a two-year-old girl whose parents died capturing it in the wild to seal it by their Raikage to ensure the village still had power in their land of lightning. Matatabi would spend many years with Yugito Nii, her jailor, her kitten, and her pupil training her to understand the fundamental nature of her kind and the chakra it possesses, why humans sought to use it for war, and why humans use her jailor as the one to harness it for war. In the course of their intense relationship, Matatabi learned that Gyūki was sealed into a young man, which made having a sibling in the same village seem a little less lonely, they went to the Falls of Truth where Yugito Nii and Killer B learned how to control the beasts’ chakra and bond perfectly with them, and shortly afterwards, Nekobaa asked if Matatabi’s paw print could be added to the Paw Encyclopaedia, which Yugito allowed just so Matatabi’s existence could be remembered.

It would be 17 long years before Matatabi would be separated from her Jinchuriki, as Kumo’s perfected Jinchuriki along with Killer B, who successfully bonded and managed Gyūki until the Akatsuki arrived and sealed it, Naruto freed them with the help of Kakashi Hatake, Sakura Haruno, and Sasuke Uchiha after they defeated their original forms Kaguya Ōtsutsuki and the Ten-Tails during the Fourth Ninja War. Throughout the years since its liberation from being used as a weapon, Matatabi has traveled the world and met many people it loves, but has always kept moving from country to country, continent to continent, Matatabi managed to survive by keeping tabs on the others up to the present making sure none of them is captured by humans.

Personality[]

Compared to most of the tailed beasts, Matatabi has shown to be respectful and polite towards others, speaking in a formal manner using “watashi” (私) when referring to itself and using honourifics when addressing Naruto while introducing itself to the young shinobi. Matatabi would take on traits similar to its previous Jinchuriki Yugito Nii after the war, though possessing a millennium of experience and wisdom, learning to be more courageous, sultry, and provocative as a tailed beast in honor of their long relationship. While living the endless centuries all by itself, a tailed beast learns to be passionate about its goals and how to achieve them, but it also develops a strong iron will and determination to keep fighting against enemies and crossing obstacles to reach what is true, preferring instead a proper and eloquent negotiation that Kechi did not exhibit when he captured it, Rather than glorifying those who wish nothing but power, Matatabi would lead them away from their path by showing them the horrors they’ve committed and the damage they’ve left behind. This was a valuable lesson learned by the creator of Matatabi, Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, whose sons were nothing but war-mongers from their long bitter rivalry. Then in the present, as the new generation of shinobi grew and became strong-willed and powerful, Matatabi would often recall the good old times during Naruto’s time and the people who had been there to watch him rise as their savior and legend while mostly remembering the Jinchuriki and how they worked together without bitterness. Matatabi has come a long way from not trusting humanity with its safety to granting them a nightly visit and blessing them with wisdom but never with its power, a strong and worthy ninja would be enough to convince Matatabi to turn its gaze on them.

Appearance[]

Matatabi is two-tailed, like a bakeneko, and is completely engulfed in flames, like a Kasha (though its flames are an animated cobalt blue and black). It also has heterochromatic eyes, the right being yellow and the left being green, similar to an odd-eyed cat without pupils. When forced to transform by Tobi, Matatabi increased in size compared to when Yugito unleashed it. During the last remaining days of the Sage of Six Paths’ life, Matatabi was a young flaming kitten much smaller than its present-day self but was still much larger than the Sage. It can take the form of a tall female with different heterochromia eyes, brown hair with cat-like ears sticking out, and a long brown tail with a blue tip when it is undergoing the Wild Cat Transformation. As a young woman with fair skin and long nails, it wears black shorts and a sports bra that barely covers it’s bust, appearing as if it is wearing nothing on its feet.

As a tailed beast, Matatabi has an enormous supply of chakra that it can transfer to others and can create the Tailed Beast Ball. As its appearance suggest, it can use Fire Release, which it can lend to its jinchūriki to create fireballs. Matatabi also has flexible muscles, which grant it great speed despite its large size. Matatabi’s raw strength can easily crush an opponent or send them flying with one swipe of its paw. When combined with the other tailed beasts’ tails, it could shatter and completely obliterate a senjutsu-enhanced complete Susanoo. Matatabi created a few techniques that allowed it to stay under the radar for many long prosperous years, one of those few techniques are the Demon Flame Replacement Technique; a technique that allows it to burst into dozen of small fire balls allowing it to slip away undetected, another is the Wild Cat Transformation a unique transformation that exclusive to the tailed beast and its Jinchuriki given enough time and training will be able to it but not as efficient like Matatabi.
