Manali: A cloudburst Palchan near Manali caused widespread destruction in the early hours of Thursday. Palchan, witnessed a sudden cloud burst in the early hours of Thursday, triggering flash floods that have affected the Manali-Leh highway.

“Last night there was a cloudburst near Anjani Mahadev due to which a large amount of water flowed into the Beas river. There has been a lot of damage in this incident in which 3 houses have been washed away and 1-2 houses have also been damaged. The victims are being temporarily sheltered in schools,” said Torul S Raveesh, Deputy Commissioner, Kullu.
Vehicles headed to Manali from Lahaul and Spiti via the north portal of the Atal Tunnel have been diverted towards Rohtang, the Lahaul and Spiti, the Police said in an advisory on Thursday. The commuters have been asked to travel only if necessary, drive cautiously, and stay aware of the possible danger en route.
“Due to yesterday’s incident, the tunnel route is closed. All traffic is being diverted from Rohtang Pass… Vehicles of essential services will be our priority. Tehsildar is present on the spot,” said Deputy Commissioner Raveesh.
