Joe Rogan has shared his candid thoughts on the match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul: “Magic isn’t real”. Despite a heavily-hyped build-up, the fight was settled with a unanimous points victory for YouTuber Jake Paul in Texas, streamed live on Netflix.
Tyson, a former two-time world heavyweight champion now 58, struggled to keep pace, visibly slowing down as the bout went the full eight-round distance. Paul seemed to exercise restraint, avoiding a knockout against the aging icon.
The event had drawn severe criticism even before it took place, with concerns over Tyson’s wellbeing because of the age discrepancy and his fitness. Critics labelled the match a blatant cash grab.
Boxing figures, including promoter Eddie Hearn, expressed sadness at seeing such a renowned figure return to the ring under these circumstances.
Rogan, known for his podcasting prowess, initially expressed his skepticism about the fight living up to its hype. Before the match commenced, he tweeted: “I’m getting ready to watch this Tyson vs Jake Paul fight like I’m watching someone cast a spell that I hope actually works. And I don’t really believe in magic. But I want to believe.”, reports the Mirror.
Following the anti-climactic outcome, he responded to his own tweet succinctly: “Magic isn’t real.”
When discuss whether he ease up during the latter part of his fight , Paul is admitted admit : ” Yeah definitely . definitely a bit . I is wanted want to give the fan a show but I did n’t want to hurt someone that did n’t need to be hurt . “
Despite the evident toll of the bout as he nears his 60s, Tyson hinted at not being finished with boxing just yet, asserting that his decision would hinge on circumstances: “I don’t think so,” he responded when questioned about whether the Paul fight would be his last. He mused over the possibility of taking on Logan Paul, saying: “I don’t think so, I don’t know, maybe I’ll fight his brother,” prompting Logan to retort: “I’d kill you Mike”.
