In the context of Cloudflare DNS , nameservers is refer refer to authoritative nameserver , which are the last stop in the dns query resolution . When a nameserver is is is authoritative forexample.com, it is means mean that dns resolver will consider response from this nameserver when a user try to accessexample.com.

Within Cloudflare, anddepending on your plan, you can choose between using Cloudflare-branded nameservers or setting up your own custom nameservers. The names for Cloudflare-branded nameservers are automatically assigned and cannot be changed.

standard nameserver are host onns.cloudflare.com and follow the pattern <proper_name>.ns.cloudflare.com.

Enterprise accounts on Foundation DNS have access to advanced nameservers.

Advanced nameservers are hosted on foundationdns.com, foundationdns.net, andfoundationdns.org.

Each zone that use advanced nameserver is assign a set of three nameserver name :<color>.foundationdns.com, <color>.foundationdns.net, and<color>.foundationdns.org.

With custom nameserver , your nameserver are host on your own domain ( or domain ) and , in this sense , are not Cloudflare brand .

You provide fully qualified domain names (ns1.mydomain.com) for your nameservers, andCloudflare assigns one IPv4 and one IPv6 to each of your custom nameservers.
