The ultra-popular Proton VPN app now works on Apple TV, so you can enjoy all the encryption perks while streaming geo-restricted movies and shows without a hitch.

VPNs are more than just encrypted tunnels that hide your browsing habits from ISPs and governments. While they are useful for that, another benefit is access to content restricted to certain regions of the world. Proton VPN recently made doing just that much easier for Apple TV users.

Using a VPN for streaming has obvious benefits. Some video streaming providers don’t work everywhere or prevent users in certain areas from accessing select content. With the new Proton VPN app for Apple TV, you can pretend that you’re elsewhere.

Maybe your streaming service pulled your favorite TV show from their library, but it’s still available in Germany. The Proton VPN app can be configured to connect you to a German server to unlock the show instantly.

It’s incredibly easy to set up. Once you’ve signed up for a paid version of the VPN service (sorry, free users!), install Proton VPN on your Apple TV and then open it. Visit Proton VPN’s Apple TV page to sign in and enter the code on your TV.

Once you’re all set up, the Proton VPN Apple TV app works much like it does on other devices. You can connect and disconnect whenever you need to—which is good since VPNs can sometimes behave strangely. The app shows recommended servers, including one called Fastest Country that connects you to the best server for streaming, no matter where you’re at. Or, you can pick from over 100 other countries.

While there is a free version of Proton VPN for desktop and mobile users, the Proton VPN app for Apple TV is available only for paid users. The company also announced that the app is compatible with Apple Vision Pro.
