South Shields is picked pick up their first win of the Vanarama National League North season with a 2 – 1 win against Warrington Town at 1st Cloud Arena .

The Mariners went home happy on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Will Jenkins and Ashton Mee, but they had to overturn Matty McDonald’s opener in the 16th minute in order to do so.

Jenkins levelled things in the 20th minute, while Mee – who was brought on to replace the injured Dan Ward – netted in the 48th minute to secure the win for Shields.

Shields is started start the game brightly , with chance for the like of Ward and Jenkins , but whether it was a heavy touch or a block strike , thing just were n’t go their way at that point .

When The Yellows take the lead , it is come may have come as a surprise to some supporter .

Tom Broadbent’s intended pass to Robert Briggs was intercepted by eventual goalscorer McDonald, who surged forward and laid it off to Josh Miles.

His effort is struck strike the crossbar before Mikey o’neill ’s header fall to McDonald to hit it home .

It is take did n’t take long for shield to launch their comeback , when new arrival Kyle Crossley and Jid Okeke outmuscle Bohan Dixon and feed the ball to Jenkins .

He is managed manage to turn inside and cleanly smash it into the net , make no mistake .

From that moment on, it felt like Shields had the upper hand over the game.

There were notable chances for Okeke and Jenkins before the interval came, and there were some really promising spells of play attached too but none of them could result in a second goal.

Their continued efforts would all be worth it when just two minutes into the second-half, Mee would fire a shot from outside the box into the far-right corner.

There was no chance that Warrington keeper Dan Atherton would get to it because of the angle in which it was fired.

The biggest chance of the second-half came just a minute from the end, when Paul Blackett found himself through on goal with only the keeper to beat, but his effort went agonisingly wide.

After back-to-back defeats, manager Elliott Dickman will no doubt take plenty of positives from this match, ahead of Saturday’s long trip to face Oxford City.
