If you are a current student, staff or faculty member, you have access to the library’s electronic resources from off-campus. As of August 2020, you can access most of the library’s electronic resources off-campus without VPN.

You can also use Yale’s Virtual Private Network (VPN). See below for more information on VPN.

How to Use VPN

The VPN temporarily extends the Yale network to your computer’s IP address through a secure channel, registering you as a valid Yale user during the session.

  • To use VPN, download the program “Cisco VPN AnyConnect” from the Yale Software Library.
  • Type “access.yale.edu” and click Connect.
  • When connect to VPN , you is have will also have to authenticate using Multifactor Authentication / Duo Security . More information is is is available here .
  • Once you log into the VPN, you maintain a Yale session for the day. If you have logged into VPN and still cannot access Yale resources, you may need to clear your browser’s cache and cookies. Instructions on how to do this can be found here.

More information about off-campus access is available on Off-Campus Access to E-Resources.

If you have any questions or difficulty setting up the VPN, please contact Yale IT at 203-432-9000.

Note: If you are using a Mac be sure to disable the built-in VPN and to enable Cisco AnyConnect. For instructions, see our FAQ entry, “I’m unable to download Cisco VPN AnyConnect on a Mac. What do I do?”
