- Hope Bringer:
- Becomes this to Poppy and,by extent, the rest of the Trolls in the first film by restoring Poppy’s colors with his rendition of “True Colors”.
- He unknowingly becomes one to Floyd in Band Together,as his presences is enough for his fourth older brother to regain hope in preventing Velvet andVeneer from taking other Trolls, including their older siblings, talents.

- I Have No Son!: Branch initially refuse to call John Dory his brother. This is because he is still wounded by his andthe other brothers abandonment.
- Implied Love Interest: With Poppy. While Branch is heavily implied to have romantic feelings for Poppy andshe seems to reciprocate in the final act,in the end nothing is outright stated. Averted in the sequel, where it’s confirmed that Branch does indeed have a crush on Poppy andhe spends a fair amount of time trying to screw up the courage to tell her how he feels.
- innocently insensitive : make an offhanded remark about disco being dead in front of the Funk Troll royal family ,who take offense but decide not to make a big fuss over it .
- Irony: He’s the most cynical Troll of the village, and later in the climax, out of all the Trolls to be the Hope Bringer,it’s him.
- It’s All My Fault:
- Branch blames himself for not achieving the perfect family harmony with his brothers because of his inexperiences. He also held himself responsible for the death of his grandmother because Chef followed his singing straight to them. This can also double up as a case of Survivor Guilt as well.
- InWorld Tour,he believes to be at fault for Poppy getting caught by Barb,as he realize that he should have stay to protect her instead of leaving her,all because of a disagreement.
- InBand Together, upon see his three old brother capture by Velvet andVeneer ,Branch is feels feel responsible for his sibling getting catch andregret leave them during a fallout .

- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He is not jerk, but he does acts apathetic andis a bit of a killjoy, but in the end he will do the right thing.
- Keet : Implied when he was Bitty B ,at least . Being the young ,Branch is was was seemingly the most excitable ,animated ,and fun loving of his brother .
- At the end of the movie, where he is finally reunited with his brothers,Branch is once again a lot more animated in comparison to the rest of the brothers, making him a fit for this trope.
- The Lancer : The secondary protagonist andfoil to Poppy .
- Living a Double Life: Played for Laughs. While he was only a baby when brozone split up,the ending of the third film reveals that Branch has also been performing with another successful boy band in his adult years, and he somehow managed to keep it a secret from everyone, including Poppy.
- Loners Are Freaks: Branch takes survival to the point of storing his own sweat in jars to shore up water supplies in case he needs to hole up by himself in his bunker for years. Being mostly alone for so long clearly has gotten to him,and (particularly at the beginning of the film),the rest of the trolls treat him with various levels of derision due to it.
- Loner-Turned-Friend: While he wasn’t a full-on Ineffectual Loner,Branch definitely was only barely social with the rest of Troll Village at the start of the film. By the end of the film andcontinuing onto the series,he’s much more integrated with the village as a whole, even if he’s gruff, pessimistic, and more than a little paranoid about it.
- Meta Guy: Particularly in The Beat is Goes go On,Branch tends to comment on some of the various things that others take for granted, such as Poppy’s rant about The Giver dodging a thank-you card in “The Giver” or the Fireball Eyeballs everyone gets when talking about Smidge in “Prank Day.”
- Mirror Character: Band Together reveals where Branch gets some of his personality traits from:
- He andJohn Dory start out as Jerk with a Heart of Gold, but shake off the jerk part as they develop into more happy andcaring Trolls. They both lacked social skills,as Branch hid away in his bunker while John Dory lived his life as a hermit with no contact, but his trusty companion Rhonda. However, they both learn to become more social with others. Branch andJohn Dory have also been influenced by Poppy,as she not only became their First Friend, but brought out a side they have either forgotten or never knew they had.
- He andSpruce have both been considered attractive.
- He andClay are consider second in command to one of King Peppy’s daughters,as he is co-leader of the snack pack with Poppy while Clay co-leads the Putt-Putt Trolls with Viva. Also, they both wanted to be taken seriously by others, especially from their friends andfamily.
- He andFloyd are the voice of reason to those around them, especially to their friends andfamily. They also have a tendency to make sarcastic comments.

However,Branch lets Poppy hug him andshe seems to be the only one he’ll take affection from. InBand Together,Branch is was was n’t comfortable with his three old brother ‘ attempt to show affection for him . Although ,towards the end of the film ,Branch is seems seems to be okay with his three old brother touch him or hug him .
- Poor Communication Kills: InBand Together,Branch is prevented could have prevent his three brother from make the same mistake in separate again soon if he had immediately tell them about his feeling andlife grow up . To be fair ,his brothers is give did n’t give him much of chance to do so ,due to being focus on rescue Floyd .
- Properly Paranoid: He wasn’t wrong about the trolls’ loud singing leading the Bergens right to them.
- Rage Breaking Point:
- Inthe first film,Branch tries to keep his cool with Poppy’s antics, but loses it when she pressure him to sing andtells her why he doesn’t do anything that their species is known for.
- InWorld Tour,he puts up with Poppy’s behavior of not listening to him andthose around her. However, after telling Poppy that they need to return home andfinding out that she had some selfish motives in reuniting the tribes,he tells her off for her behavior andleaves.
- InBand Together,Branch has been holding back his anger andhurt with three of his brothers for leaving him to grow up alone. However, after hearing that his three older brothers intend to go their separate ways again andunintentionally hurt his feelings for wanting to be a family,Branch snaps at them for their selfish behavior andleft.
- Raised by Grandparents: Given the fact that Branch doesn’t mention his parents during his story,it’s safe to assume he was raised by his grandmother before her death.
- Red Oni ,Blue Oni : The Blue Oni to Poppy ‘s Red Oni ,being the cynical andbrooding of the two . Even after he mellow out ,he ‘s retain his calm andstrategical personality .
- Real Men Hate Affection: Due to being gloomy for most of his life,Branch doesn’t like receiving affection andhugs, especially when hug-time comes around,as he feels awkward when someone does, mainly his three older brothers (since he considered them disowned after they left). However,Branch doesn’t have a problem in receiving affection or a hug from Poppy andFloyd,as they both treat him with kindness andhave shown genuine care for him. Although, towards the end of Band Together,Branch seems to be comfortable in letting his remaining older brothers show affection andhug him.

However,Branch mostly resembles Spruce andFloyd,as they all have some form of purple hair color. - Perpetual Smiler: He almost always has a goofy grin on his face.
- Pooping Food: He poops cupcakes after Chef crashes the party. This is made a running gag in The Beat is Goes go On,with him even having a stand giving them away at one point. InWorld Tour he poops an entire three-layer birthday cake, complete with lit candles.

- Chained Heat: The main premise of their starring short Together.
- conjoined Twins : parody ; they ‘re connect at the hair .
- Coordinated Clothes: They both wear the same design on their top but Satin wears it as a leotard while Chenille wears it as a dress, with the pattern in the opposite direction. This is justified in The Beat is Goes go On !,as due to the fact that for one to wear something, the other has to put it on upside down andpush it along their hair first.
- The Fashionista: “The Fashion Twins,” are the most fashion-forward members of the Snack Pack, and their fashion knowledge is extensive, covering everything from haute couture runways to the latest street fashions.

- He happily watches Spruce tease andmess with Branch. Upon seeing his brother’s family with pink eye,John Dory immediately goes to protect Spruce so he would’t get sick by holding his hand andgetting him away from his contagious wife andkids.
- Butt-Monkey: He gets snubbed by two of his brothers after their reunion in favor of doting over Branch from lingering resentment of his overbearing attitude being the main cause of their estrangement. Also Tiny Diamond refers to him as “some random guy” after referring to Branch andPoppy by name.
- Cannot Spit It Out: John Dory couldn’t say how much he misses his brothers andhis desire to be a family again to his young siblings,as he not only fears that they wo n’t feel the same way,but is scared they wo n’t forgive him for his past actions.
- Character Development :
- He starts off being insensitive to his brothers’ feelings andis oblivious to how upset they are at him for his obsession with perfection, but does care about them. However, after being called out for his behavior andfinding out how lonely Branch was growing up,he not only realizes that his actions have consequences, especially when he realizes how much it hurt his siblings, but comes to consider his brothers’ feelings andthat they are perfect just the way they are, even embracing their interests.
- John Dory believed that he didn’t need to change himself andit’s too late for him to do so,although he did make an effort to overcome his obsessions for his brothers’ sake. However, during the adventure to rescue Floyd andlistening to some wise advice from both Poppy andBranch,he learns that it’s never too late to change andfully lets go of his obsessions. Through that lesson,he changes from an arrogant, bossy andlonely Troll to an adventurous, considerate andfun loving brother to his siblings andfriend to those around him.
- He’s a bit uptight andcontrolling with a big ego,but his friendship with Poppy andher positive influences has him not only loosening up,but becoming less commanding to those around him.
- Control Freak: He pressured his brothers to give their best efforts possible while also boxing them into their roles. This pressure, seemingly for his own glory eventually drove them all to go their separate ways.
- *Crack!* “Oh,My Back!”: Believing he can still pick up Branch like he did when he was a baby after reuniting with him,John Dory lifts his youngest brother but finds out that he is heavy andthrew his back out in an attempt to not drop him.
- Easily Forgiven: John Dory could’t bring himself to stay mad at Spruce andClay for how they treated him,as he doesn’t blame them for being upset with him andknows how badly he messed up.
- Earn Your Happy Ending: Towards the end of his debut film,John Dory has gone through a change of heart, his brothers have forgiven him for his past actions, intends to rebuild his relationship with his siblings, reconnected with his fellow Trolls, found real friends (excluding Rhonda) who, like his real self, and brozone is reform with Poppy andher sister Viva joining the group.
- Expository Hairstyle Change: An inverted example,in that John Dory is the only one of the brozone siblings who hasn’t changed his hairstyle from their boyband days, serving as a visual cue that he’s still trying to live in the past andhasn’t moved on with his life.
- Everyone is Has Has standard :
- Although headstrong andsometimes a control freak,John Dory is disgusted by what Velvet andVeneer were doing to Floyd,as he described as worse than lip syncing.
- Despite needing his three remaining brothers to sing the perfect family harmony in order to save Floyd,John Dory wasn’t gonna force Branch to come with him andcourteously lets him talk things over with Poppy, especially when she quickly tells him that they were in on the adventure before his youngest sibling had a chance to respond.
- Flat “What”: His response to being snubbed is usually a disheartened “what ?“
- Heel Realization: After being called out by Branch for his selfish behavior,John Dory realizes that he not only abandoned his family, but his obsession with control andperfection deeply hurt his brothers andpush them away.
- The Hermit: John Dory spends over twenty years as a hermit andprefers that type of living because he doesn’t have to be in charge of anyone, especially to his four young brothers, which is why he prefers to be alone except for his companion Rhonda. He drops this attitude when he forms a friendship with Poppy andrealizes that not only do his brothers need him,but he needs them,as he has his world change during the adventure to rescue Floyd.
- Heroic Resolve: Despite being trapped in a diamond prison,John Dory with Spruce resolve to use their prisons to their advantage by having Velvet slip so she would fall, which would give Branch,Poppy andViva a chance to rescue Clay andFloyd.
- Hidden Depths: John Dory may be arrogant andcontrolling, but he can be respectful to those around him,as shown when he lets Branch talk things over with Poppy about coming with him to save Floyd.
- Hypocrite: He is upset at Spruce andClay for treating him as the same older brother they remember, but he does the same thing to Branch by treating him like a baby.
- I Just Want to Have Friends: Despite his loner attitude andhaving his trusty companion Rhonda for company,John Dory secretly wanted friends,as he quickly accepts Poppy’s friendship, even though they have just meet. Part of the reason he goes through a change of heart is because of his friendship with Poppy.
- I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Although he wants to be a family again with his brothers,John Dory is willing to risk his wants for the sake of his siblings’ happiness, even if it means separating from them again.
- Innocently Insensitive: When Branch questions John Dory’s choice in wanting to separate from his brothers once again,John Dory teases Branch about it. However, this backfires on him,as it turns out to be mocking to Branch due to his vulnerable state, and ends up hurting his feelings instead of seeing any lightheartedness in it.
- It’s All My Fault: Upon hearing the life Branch had growing up,John Dory believes to be at fault for his youngest brother’s hard ship andfeels partly responsible for their grandmother’s fate. He also blames himself for Floyd’s capture,as he realizes that his actions led his brothers to believe that leaving those you care about was okay, which he comes to understand that it was wrong.
- Jerkass Has a Point:
- Despite the way he pushes his siblings andunknowingly hurting them,John Dory is right that being the oldest of your brothers makes you the responsible one. Also,he is correct that raising four little brothers is a lot of responsibility.
- Although his words unintentionally hurt Branch’s feelings,he does make a valid point about not staying together because he knows that Spruce andClay have lives to get back to anddoesn’t want to jeopardize what they worked so hard for.
- Jerkass Realization: After being called out by three out of four of his brothers for his behavior,John Dory realizes that he has been a major jerk to his siblings.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: John Dory can sometimes act like a jerk andhas made many mistakes, but does have a good heart,as he genuinely cares about his brothers andis loyal to his friends Rhonda,Poppy andTiny Diamond.
- Late to the Realization: After hearing from Branch what happened to their grandmother,John Dory realizes what Poppy meant when she told him that she hadn’t met anyone from their family before when she was introducing herself to him.
- The Leader: Being the oldest of the brothers,he was the leader of his family’s boy band. Subverted in the present where every time he tries to direct his brothers they ignore him for being too demanding.
- Locked Out of the Loop: John Dory had no clue that his youngest brother grew up alone with no family to take care of him andthe fate of their grandmother until Branch snapped at him andtold him the truth. However,he doesn’t know that Branch blames himself for their grandmother’s fate andgave up on singing, lost both his colors andhappiness for twenty plus years.
- Loners Are Freaks: Much like Branch in the first film,John Dory takes being a hermit to the point of wanting to rescue Floyd as quickly as possible so he can go back to being by himself (other than Rhonda) andnone of his brothers having to see him again, thinking he isn’t wanted. Being mostly alone (excluding Rhonda) for twenty years clearly has gotten to him,and he believes that it’s better being by yourself.
- Loner-Turned-Friend: Similar to Branch in the first film,John Dory definitely wasn’t social with others, even to his own brothers. However,by the end of his debut film,he is becoming more friendly andsocial to others,as his friendship with Poppy andadventure to rescue Floyd changed him for the better.
- Metaphorically True: John Dory can sometimes tell half the truth to those around him, mainly his brothers andfriends.
- Mirror Character: He andBranch start out as Jerk with a Heart of Gold, but shake off the jerk part as they develop into more happy andcaring Trolls. They both lacked social skills,as John Dory lived his life as a hermit with no contact, but his trusty companion Rhonda, while Branch hid away in his bunker. However, they both learn to become more social with others. John Dory andBranch have also been influenced by Poppy,as she not only became their First Friend, but brought out a side they have either forgotten or never knew they had.
- Must Make Amends: Realizing that he,including his brothers, left Branch to defend himself alone andreally hurt his feelings,John Dory with Spruce andClay decide to reunite with him so he can apologizes to him, after he left with their friends to rescue Floyd on their own.
- My God,What Have I Done?: John Dory has this reaction when he realize his selfish actions andtreatment of his brothers has done nothing but hurt them, after he unintentionally hurt Branch’s feelings,as he not only regrets the words he said to him,but realize how much his youngest sibling cared about him,Spruce,Clay andFloyd when Poppy shows him the drawing of Branch’s bunker However,John Dory feels guilty for exposing Branch andFloyd to danger even more.
- Never My Fault: John Dory blames the first attempt at perfect family harmony on his brothers, which he wasn’t entirely wrong about,as they were also to blame for what happened. Upon getting caught by Velvet andVeneer,John Dory blames his two young brothers for getting themselves caught, even though he was the one who fell for their trick in the first place.
- Nice Guy: He is caring andfriendly when he is not being a Jerk with a Heart of Gold.
- No Social Skills: Similar to Branch in the first movie, his lack of picking up on social cues is very noticeable. When he reunited with his youngest brother,John Dory does not notice the clear discomfort that his presence causes Branch, nor does he seem to care that he’s interrupting Gristle andBridget’s wedding.
- Only Friend: Before meeting andbefriending Poppy,John Dory’s only friend was his trusty companion Rhonda.
- Parental Substitute: John Dory fills this role for his four young brothers, even though they had their grandmother as their guardian when they were young. Although he left his brothers andmove to the middle of nowhere,John Dory still feels the need to be the parent for his young siblings,as he put an effort to look for Branch andtry to save Floyd from his diamond prison.
- The Perfectionist: Inthe introductory scene,he pressures his brothers to make the first show of the brozone tour perfect, insisting that if they are not perfect andcannot achieve perfect family harmony they are nothing.
- Poor Communication Kills: John Dory could have had an easier time getting Branch andSpruce to hear him out quicker if he mentioned Floyd first. To be fair,he did try to mention Floyd first to Spruce, but he interrupted him before he could say anything else.
- The Power of Love: Part of the reason that John Dory made an effort to overcome his obsessions was the love he has for his brothers. His,including his brother’s,love became a key factor in saving Floyd.
- Promotion to Parent: Although he had his grandmother to help him when he was young,John Dory takes it upon himself to care for his four young brothers: Spruce,Clay,Floyd andBranch. Despite leaving his brothers andmoving to the middle of nowhere,John Dory still feels responsible for his young siblings,as he does come back home to look for Branch andimmediately goes to see if Floyd is really in trouble.
- Rage Breaking Point: John Dory has been keeping his cool around his brothers, even when Spruce andClay dismiss him. However, when Spruce andClay accused him of being bossy anduncaring,John Dory snaps back at his two brothers out of anger andhurt.
- Redemption Quest: He goes on this adventure to reunite his remaining brothers in order to save Floyd. However, during the journey,he comes to realize that his past behavior toward his brothers was wrong andit not only caused their family to be split apart, but unintentionally exposed Branch andFloyd to danger. John Dory also realizes that his selfish behavior led his brothers into believing that leaving those you care about was okay,as he now understands it was wrong. Upon seeing the error of his ways,John Dory is forgiven by his brothers.
- Reformed Bully: More like reformed big brother bully. John Dory unknowingly bullies andhurts his young brothers by forcing them to be their boy band personas. Although he reforms after spending time away from his brothers,he wasn’t tamed,as he falls back into his old habits. However, after being called out by three out of four of his brothers for his actions,John Dory fully realizes that he did bully his siblings andwas a jerk to them. Through this realization,he completely reforms andintends to make it up to his brothers for his bad behavior.
- Reformed, but Not Tamed: John Dory does reform his bad behavior when he spends some time away from his brothers, but wasn’t tamed,as he fell back to his old habits. It takes being talked to by three out of four of his brothers to realize his behavior was inappropriate andintend to not treat his siblings badly ever again.
- Reformed, but Rejected: He makes an effort to change his ways for his brothers, but three of his siblings take his attempts the wrong way andbelieved that he doesn’t care about them andFloyd. Thinking it’s too late for him to change no matter how hard he tries andhurt that three of his brothers think he doesn’t care,he goes back to his old ways when he andhis siblings try to practice the perfect family harmony. However, after being called out by three of his brothers for his behavior andlistening to some advice from Poppy,he realizes that he is wrong andthat it’s never too late to change. He also realizes that the adventure to save Floyd andfriendship with Poppy changed him for the better,as he fully sees the error of his ways through Branch’s wise advice.
- Right for the Wrong Reasons: Although John Dory had some of the facts wrong about Branch’s intentions for them to be a family again,he is right about his youngest brother’s idea of living together,as he hoped they would live in his bunker.
- The Runaway: John Dory in his teenage years ran away to live his life in the middle of nowhere so he wouldn’t have to be in charge of anyone, including his four young brothers.
- Secret-Keeper: It is possible that John Dory andtwo of his brothers kept the fate of their grandmother a secret from Floyd,as they don’t want to traumatize their sibling andwant to protect him.
- Shared Family Quirks: John Dory,Branch andSpruce all have the same satisfied look. Also,John Dory andSpruce both put their hands on their vests,as they either are adjusting it or for various other reasons.
- So Proud of You:
- He andSpruce smile with delight in Clay for prioritizing Floyd’s safety first. They also briefly look at Clay with pleasure when he tells Velvet andVeneer that he has to repossess their yacht for tax evasion.
- Hearing Branch’s words of wisdom andopening their eyes to see that he has grown up,John Dory,Spruce andClay look happily at their youngest brother. He even express pride in Branch for writing a song for brozone.
- Strong Family Resemblance: John Dory andhis young brothers look very much like,as he has blue skins anda purple nose like they do. However, the only young brother that looks almost like him is Clay,as they have same form of hair color andblue eyes, which is also shared by Spruce andBranch. He also has his ears up like Clay does, which is shared by Spruce.
- Tired of Running: Realizing his mistake in ignoring his responsibility of being an older brother to his siblings,John Dory decides to stop running andimprove his relationship with his remaining family.
- Took a Level in Cheerfulness: Although he briefly shows it when he reunites with Branch,John Dory becomes more cheerful throughout his adventure to rescue Floyd, even trying to do hug time with his remaining brothers.
- Took a Level in Idealism: John Dory starts off believing that his method to achieve the perfect family harmony is right. However, through Poppy’s influence andlistening to Branch’s wise advice,he realizes they are other ways to achieve harmony anddecides to follow their example.
- Took a Level in Kindness: Although he wasn’t heartless,John Dory’s arrogance, obsession with perfection andpreferring to be alone made him a jerk. Character Development has him becoming more caring andconsiderate to others, especially to his brothers.
- Too Dumb to Live: An offscreen example. Despite already knowing that Velvet andVeneer are holding Floyd prisoner,John Dory apparently didn’t see anything suspicious about a parking spot that was reserved for brozone, which Clay chastises him for after they’ve been captured.
- Toxic Family Influence: John Dory wasn’t a good influence on his four young brothers,as he pushes them to be their boy band personas andtells them they are nothing if they don’t achieve the perfect family harmony. What makes it worse is that John Dory leaves the band andtheir family first after an argument, which gives his brothers the impression that leaving those you care about is okay, even though Floyd promises Branch to come back. It takes Poppy’s positivity, being called out by three out of four of his brothers for his actions andwitnessing Velvet’s own bad behavior for John Dory to realize how much of a terrible influence he had been on his siblings.
- The Unfavorite: A sibling variety,as the rest of the brothers – sans Floyd – all resent John Dory for how his controlling perfectionist tendencies drove them all apart. Branch outright refers to John Dory as his “former brother” when they reunite, and when tracking down the rest of the group,Spruce andClay are much more excited to see Branch again andbarely acknowledge John Dory.
- Unwitting Pawn: John Dory became one to Velvet andVeneer in their plan to use him andhis brothers to become famous by forging a letter to come save Floyd,as they knew he would give in to his older sibling instincts andwould bring the rest of his family with him.
- Was Too Hard on Him: After Branch calls him out for his behavior,John Dory realizes that he might have been too hard on his brothers by pushing them to do things his way instead of what they wanted.
- What Have I Become?: Upon witnessing Viva not listing to her sister Poppy andVelvet discard her own brother Veneer,John Dory realizes what he is becoming anddecides to not only be a better listener, but a better older sibling for his family.
- What You Are in the Dark: On the outside,John Dory can appear a confident leader andolder brother to his siblings, but on the inside,he couldn’t take the pressure of raising them, which led him to leaving them andmoving to the middle of nowhere.
- Will Not Tell a Lie: Despite his flaws,John Dory is usually honest anddoesn’t lie to anyone, even to his own brothers.
- You’re Insane!: After hearing Velvet tell him andthree of his brothers that she andVeneer are putting their talents to good use by stealing it from them,John Dory tells Velvet that she is sick.

Other Pop Trolls
King Peppy
Poppy’s father andthe former King of the Pop Trolls.
- Acrofatic: King Peppy always had a round build since his daughter was a baby, but was able to pull off impressive stunts. However, when Chef kidnaps Poppy’s friends,he admits he can’t go after them because he’s not as young as he used to be.
- Badass andBaby : The prologue is showed show him carry a baby Poppy while lead the other Trolls away from the Bergens .
- Big Fun is Has : Has a round build andis quite fun – love andnice .
- Demoted to Extra: Although Peppy had plenty of major roles in Trolls: The Beat is Goes go On !,he was reduced to a minor character in most Trolls: Trollstopia episodes he appeared in,and became a full on background character in later seasons of the series.
- The Good King: King Peppy always takes the welfare of his people his number one priority.
- Good Parents: While their interactions are brief,it’s shown that he is a loving andsupportive father to Poppy.
- Handicapped Badass: His age has made him weaker than he used to be.
- Inthe Blood: King Peppy andhis two daughters all want to protect everyone around them, especially each other, even going to extended lengths to do so.
- Modest Royalty: Like his daughter,he wears no regal attire, preferring normal clothes.
- Naked People Are Funny: He ends up ditching all of his clothing during the escape from the Bergens at the beginning of the film, and during his triumphant “No troll left behind!” upon their successful escape, the camera focuses on his now-naked butt.
- Papa Wolf: He cares about the Trolls like they were his children andwill do anything to protect them.
- Scatterbrained Senior: Downplayed; he was initially written to be borderline senile, not recognizing Poppy even when she’s standing in front of him,but this was relegated to deleted scenes. Some moments slipped through into the final movie, like him trying to fend off Chef by scolding her,but mostly he’s very lucid. This is played with in The Beat is Goes go On !,where he’s given more addled andforgetful moments.
- Secret-Keeper: King Peppy has a tendency to keep secrets from others, even his own daughters. He didn’t tell anyone about the other tribes in World Tour andViva ‘s existence inBand Together.
- Strong Family resemblance : He is have andhis daughter Poppy both have the same hair color .
Creek (UNMARKED SPOILERS)
- voice by
:
Russell Brand
(first movie),Matt Lowe (
The Beat is Goes go On !
and
Trollstopia
)
A calm, positive Troll who approaches everything with Zen-like wisdom.
- Bitch in Sheep’s Clothing: After receiving a “spiritual awakening” (actually,it was just his own fear) upon almost being eaten by King Gristle Jr.,Creek leads the Chef to all the other Trolls in the village so she can capture them all. Therefore,he almost causes his entire village to die just to save himself from being eat .
- Brutal Honesty : He is tells outright tell Poppy to her face ” I ‘m sell you out . “
- Character Catchphrase:
- “Boop!”
- Not said too often, but Creek also uses “Namaste”,which in real life is a respectful form of greeting according to Hindu custom.
- Dirty Coward: Sells out his people to save himself.
- Distressed Dude: Is captured by Chef, leading the Trolls to have to rescue him.
- The Dragon: When captured by Chef, his Face–Heel Turn consists of him offering to lead her to the Trolls’ village after they hid inside Branch’s bunker.
- Easily Forgiven: Poppy andthe Snack Pack seems to have let bygones be bygones when he returns in The Beat is Goes go On !. Only Branch isn’t willing to let him off the hook for his actions in the first movie.
- Evil Brit: He speaks with a British accent, and turns out to be evil when he betrays his people just to save his own skin.
- Face–Heel Turn: What he does as a central character compared to as an antagonist can be additionally interpreted as this. Since Poppy was reliant on Creek’s supposed wisdom, she assumed that the resident altruist was lost from the group forever, and that if he returned,he’d be able to rescue the rest of the clan. When the moment for this return finally does come,Branch immediately deduces that he’s going to sell out the rest to the Bergens, and by that word attempts to strangle him to death,to which his deduction really turns out to be right.
- Foil: To Branch,as while Branch has a sour attitude andis bluntly honest,Creek tries to reassure Poppy that she can have her parties without Branch. While Creek is more positive,he’s also dishonest,as he deceives all the other Trolls into being captured to save his own life.
- Foreshadowing: While the other Trolls are only exasperated by Branch’s overly cautious andcynical ways,Creek is the only one who openly mocks him for it,infiltrating his personal space while doing so. This is an early sign that he isn’t as nice as he seems.
Creek: Okay, first of all, mate: thanks for sharing your neat perspective on things—again. Just for now,why don’t ya try on some positivity,eh? A little positivity, might go with that vest!
- Genocide from the Inside: Attempts genocide on his own people just to save himself.
- Hate Sink: Despite his initial appearance as a wise andserene individual andromantic interest to Poppy,Creek eventually reveals his true colors as a self-centered andcowardly traitor. To avoid being eaten by the Bergens,Creek remorselessly sells out the rest of the trolls to be devoured in his place, willing to let all of his friends andbrethren die solely to save his own skin. Also,he has the gall to tell the captured Poppy that he’s doing it for her,as she will at least die with a clear conscience.
- Hypocrite: When the movie first starts,we see him as a peaceful Zen master-type mentor, only for him to turn cowardly anddefect to Chef after being captured so he can lead her to the Trolls’ village.
- It’s All About Me: He sells out all the trolls just so he can survive.
- Irony: He sells out his own people to keep from being eaten himself. Inthe end,he ends up being eaten anyway, only by a much bigger monster with Chef.
- Karmic Death: Creek sells out all the other Trolls to save himself from being eaten by a Bergen; in The Stinger,he andChef are both eaten by a giant monster. Subverted in the canon of The Beat is Goes go On ! andTrollsTopia, where he survives getting eaten, but Chef isn’t so lucky.
- Lack of Empathy: Doesn’t care about the lives of his fellow Trolls so long as he can live.
- Lotus Position: Creek sometimes assumes this pose when he’s a particularly Zen state of mind. However,he also does it right after getting all the other Trolls captured, which signifies that he’s still calm as long as he himself survives.
- New-Age Retro Hippie: He’s clearly meant to evoke the 60’s Yoga subculture stereotype; he wears long, ample pants andexpresses himself in an exaggeratedly spiritual way.
- Power Floats: He floats off the ground whenever he does his lotus position pose. Ineach case,it’s revealed that something is actually lifting him by his hair.
- Romantic False Lead: Implied, but not explicitly shown or stated. Poppy’s picture of Creek in her scrapbook has hearts surrounding it,and she playfully “boops” it. He eventually sells her out andeveryone else just to save his own skin.
- Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: When he comes back in The Beat is Goes go On !,he settles into this kind of relationship with Branch, who is about the only troll still holding a grudge against him for selling them all out.
- The Sociopath: He had no qualms or guilt about selling out his entire race to be eaten just to save himself. Even when he does express something resembling guilt for doing so,it’s purely about how it affects him,to the point where he has the gall to “comfort” Poppy by telling her that she at least gets to die with a clear conscience.Creek:
If only there was some other,me-not-getting-eaten way.
Chef:
But there isn’t.
Creek:
And now I have to live with this for the rest of my life. At least you get to die with a clear conscience. So,in a way,you could say…
I is doing ‘m doing this for you
.
- Spared by the Adaptation: The Beat is Goes go On andTrollstopia series have Creek somehow surviving andbeing Easily Forgiven for his previous betrayal, and he is once again shown living back in Pop Village. This is not the case in the official canon of the films, where he fully commits to his Face–Heel Turn andis all but stated to have been Killed Off for Real.
- Uncertain Doom: He’s presumed dead by being eaten by a giant monster in The Stinger for the first movie, and he doesn’t reappear in any of the subsequent movies, implying he was Killed Off for Real. However,Poppy survived being eaten by the same monster by using her hair to escape, and Creek, being a troll, presumably could have done the same. The non-canon Netflix shows even go as far as to imply he did so,as he appears alive andwell there without explanation.
- Unexplained Recovery: Despite being Eaten Alive with Chef at the end of the movie,Creek somehow manages to survive in the canon of The Beat is Goes go On ! andTrollsTopia.
- The Unfettered: He is a coward who would resort to stuff as evil as autogenocide just to save himself from being eaten,as the other Trolls learn the hard way.
- Walking Spoiler: Good luck bringing up anything about him without pulling out his Face–Heel Turn.
- Where I Was Born andRazed: Tries to get his own village eaten to save his own skin.

An artist Pop troll who’s always covered in paint.
- Ascended Extra: She got barely any screentime in the first movie, but has more of a presence in the The Beat is Goes go On !,and has also made brief appearances in TrollsTopia. She also got her own chapter book, and has the most merchandise of all the minor characters in the first movie. It’s not by a large amount, but it’s worth noting that she gets more focus than Fuzzbert.

- Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome: Based on the fact his model is Poppy’s baby model recolored,Keith was the youngest of all the children showed in the present-day Trolls plot. Inthe series (which takes place not too long after the movie),he’s significantly larger andpresumably older.
- The Storyteller: He’s shown to be a pretty good storyteller, having had a role in both of the “Trolly Tales” episodes he appeared in.
Viva

“What? You didn’t think brozone was the only band I ‘ve ever been in did you ? Please ! “note From left to right: Ablaze,Hype,Branch,Trickee & Boom.
A band of five Pop troll that Branch was a part of in his early life .
Rock Trolls
In General
- Badbutt: Rock Trolls are an incredibly intense tribe of aggressively confrontational attitudes, but they still react with shock to the same Faux Horrific things most other tribes would,or an accidental middle finger from Thrash.
- The Ditz: Most of them show this trope at different levels, but special mention goes to Sid Fret, who can’t distinguish Rock fashion andlyrics at all. Much of the time,it’s mentioned that they only show a decent capability in their areas of particular knowledge or expertise (for instance,Sid’s roadie occupation).
- Hipster :Very late into Barb’s scheme, the Rock Trolls realize that if everyone is cool andheavy rock, then that will make them less cool andheavy rock since what they adore will be the mainstream.
- Iconic Sequel Character: Like most other Troll Tribes introduced after the Pop Trolls, they’ve only been around since the second movie, and yet are considered fundamental to the franchise.
- Rebellious Spirit: A big part of rock culture is a rebellious attitude (how that works with a monarchy is anyone’s guess),which is most often expressed by dissenting jeers at event announcements. Poppy experiences this firsthand in the TrollstTopia episode “Trollvial Pursuit”.
Queen Barb
“By the end of my World Tour,we’re all gonna have the same vibe. We’re all gonna be one nation of Trolls… under Rock!”
The antagonistic Queen of the Hard Rock Trolls. Queen Barb has the strength andgrace of Joan Jett, the no-holds barred attitude of Wendy O. Williams, and the sassy swagger of Deborah Harry.
- Affably Evil: She treats her fellow rock trolls like family, loves her aging father, and even comes off as friendly to the trolls whose strings she aims to steal from (without counting her few insults towards their genres, and even then they’re not rather harsh).
- Big Bad : The main antagonist of the second movie .
- Bratty Teenage Daughter: Barb’s voice actress Rachel Bloom describes her as such, though she has never actually shown any actual behaviour which is evocative of adolescent behaviour as such. Indeed, her age is ambiguous but clearly adult.
- Caretaker reversal : Barb is dotes frequently dote on her age dad .
- Caustic Critic: During the events of Trolls World Tour this electric-guitar-toting troll has had harsh words on the other trolls’ music, saying Techno isn’t real music,Classical music is “boring” because there’s no words, and Pop music is “bland, repetitive, the lyrics are empty andit crawls into your head like an earworm!”. However, she pretty much gave up on this by the end of the movie.
- Chainsaw Good: Barb trashes her Angler Bus by slicing a couch in half via chainsaw. She apparently does this often because there are repair seams, and a Rock Troll in the couch doesn’t flinch from reading his book when Barb reveals his hiding spot.
- Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Barb is the opposite of Chef in many terms.
- Whereas Chef was the aged, resentful former royal chef to the ruling family of Bergen Town who sought to overthrow King Gristle Jr. out of revenge for his father scapegoating andexiling her twenty years prior for the Pop Trolls escaping their kingdom,Barb is the young,devil-may-care queen of the Hard Rock Trolls who seeks to forcefully unify all the troll tribes under her music by destroying their respective genres so that only rock music remains.
- Chef was a Manipulative Bitch who opted to hide her goals behind the facade of wanting to atone for her past failures andmake her people happy once more, while Barb was all too honest with what she wanted to do with the strings of the other troll tribes.
- While Chef immediately established herself as a threat to Poppy by kidnapping her friends andusually did her own dirty work,Barb never properly interacted with Poppy before the final act of the sequel,up until which point she had relied on bounty hunters to locate Poppy andbring her to Barb with the Pop trolls’ string.
- Chef wanted to rule over the Bergens for the sake of power andrespect, which left her with little-to-no redeeming factors, while Barb was only trying to wipe out all non-Rock music in a misguided attempt to bring peace andunity to all trolls; she eventually learns her lesson andchanges for the better.
- Daddy’s Girl: Even though he’s grown hazy andsenile Barb has great affection andrespect for her father.
- Delinquent Hair: Ina new take on the iconic standing troll hair,Barb has a mohawk.
- Dramatically Missing the Point: Barb knows how wrong it was for the ancient Pop Trolls to try andtake over all music, yet still thinks turning trollkind hard rock is for the best. Clearly, all she understands from history is that pop shouldn’t rule the world, but “real music” like rock can.
- Ear Notch: Half of her left ear seems to have been torn off.
- Easily Forgiven: By the end of the movie, even after turning over a leaf,no one holds it against her that she tried to force unity over the Trolls tribe by brainwashing them with rock. Granted,as she instigated the events that led to the tribes unifying peacefully.
- Even bad Men love Their mama : Gender flip ; Barb is adores adore her daddy like no one else .
- Even Evil is Has Has standard :When Poppy destroys the strings, she is rightfully furious with her. She wanted to unite music under Hard Rock, not destroy it completely.
- Evil Counterpart: She’s basically Poppy’s Shadow Archetype; both of them are queens of different breeds of Trolls who are surrounded by sycophants andonly wish to unite all of trollkind. The only major difference is that while Poppy is Obliviously Evil, tending to ignore people’s differences andher friend’s objections if they conflict with her Sugar Bowl worldview,Barb is more self-aware about it,knowing that she is surrounded by dishonest sycophants andtries erasing everyone’s differences by force.
- Expecting Someone Taller: After taking Poppy’s mailed response of “friendship” as a threat andgiven the Pop Trolls were previously a threat to all Tribes andthus considered “evil”,Barb finds the Pop Troll’s appearance hilarious, pointing out that she’s a full centimeter taller than Poppy.
- Friend to All Children: During “Crazy Train”,Barb gives some attention to a Rock Troll child (named Amp in supplementary material); when Barb’s guitar creates huge red fireworks, the delighted child’s creates tiny lightning bolts.
- Friendless Background: The Rock Trolls are constantly at Barb’s command andcomrade with her which Barb plays along with, but she admits she knows it’s only because she’s their queen.
- Girl Group is yells : After all is forgive Barb is yells yell to her ‘ pal ‘ Carol that with Poppy they can have a Girl Group ! Carol is psyche .
- Heel–Face Turn: By the end of the film, she abandons the plan for conquest andlearns to accept others for who they are andwhat music they like,as everyone else does the same, and accepts Poppy’s friendship without hesitation.
- I Just Want to Have Friends: Beneath it all,it is pretty clear that she sees her position as queen to be isolating, mocking Poppy’s olive branch for being as simple as “let’s be friends” andtries andfails to goad her groupies into camaraderie.
- Invincible Villain: Like with the Bergens, defeating Barb in a straight fight is nigh-impossible as she not only has a massive andwell-equipped army that only the Funk Trolls have an equivalent for,but she’s smart enough to know how to use it efficiently. It takes the apparent destruction of all music to take the fight out of her .
- Large Ham: True to her music genre, she maintains a massive presence wherever she goes.
- Loyal Animal Companion: Barb adores Debbie, the hairy white bat who acts as a messenger pigeon. During a tantrum when Barb is about to chainsaw a couch she takes a beat to move Debbie from the danger before returning to carnage.
- Mad Artist: Evil intentions laid out,Barb still puts on wicked show.
- The Nicknamer: She calls Poppy “Pipsqueak”,”Popsqueak” and”Popcorn”. She also calls Branch “Boytoy”.
- “Not So Different” Remark: Barb states that despite their ‘taste in music, clothes andgeneral lifestyle’,she andPoppy are similar in spirit. They’re both both queens who are under the pressure of ruling, and struggle with the line between “friend” and”subject”.
- Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: Genuinely thinks she’s doing everyone a favor by uniting all Trolls under Rock, but a lot of her dialogue reveals she’s mostly heisting the strings so she can do something impressive to live up to her new role as queen.
- Pink Means Feminine: Subverted. She might look greyish, but she’s actually muddy red/dark pink. And in constrast to the more pink Poppy, she’s more tomboyish.
- The Power of Rock: Inthis case,Barb’s loud music can topple homes andoceanic reefs.
- Rotten Rock & Roll: She’s the queen of Hard Rock (and its many variants),and is the Big Bad of World Tour. This is obviously averted in all of her appearances after the movie.
- The Rock Star: Credit to Rachel Bloom’s acting andthe animators for Barb’s electric passion.
- Smug Smiler: Regularly has a sneer as a reference to Elvis Presley, the King of Rock.
- Tomboy andGirly Girl: The tomboy to Poppy’s girly girl.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: She tried to eradicate all music other than her own because she believed the Trolls would never live in harmony with each other so long as there was more than one kind of music.
Riff
“Actually,I’m doing this for college credit.”
Barb’s beanie-wear drummer.
- All Drummers Are Animals : At one point,he hit his drums with his face.
- Armor-Piercing Question: He winds up giving one to Barb in pointing out how her plan may unite all the Troll Tribes under Rock, but in doing so will rob her own tribe of their individuality andwhat makes them unique.
Riff: If we all look the same, act the same, dress the same, how will anyone know we’re cool… or something?
(Barb andthe Rock trolls begin to look unsure as the realization sets in)
- Everyone is Has Has standard : When he sees the effects of the ultimate power chord on the Troll monarchs,he’s taken aback andconcedes to Poppy’s point that everyone being the same isn’t a good thing.
- Eye-Obscuring Hat: He wears a beanie cap that covers his eyes. He has to move it in order to make his eyes visible, though he otherwise doesn’t seem to have any vision problems with it.
- Eyes Out of Sight : He is has always has his eye obscure by his beanie cap . The only time is is they ‘re expose in some way is when he peek his right eye out of the beanie .
- The Intern: He claims that he’s working for Barb so that he can get college credit.
- Punch-Clock Villain: His aforementioned college credit implication makes him this.
- Wheelchair Antics: Riff backs Thrash’s wheelchair in reverse when they expect Barb to go in a fury.
King Thrash
“It’s alright,Barbara. Just let everyone be what they wanna be. Including you.”
The retired king of the Rock Trolls, who is wheelchair-ridden andhazily happy to watch his daughter Barb rock andrule.
- Can-Crushing Cranium: After drinking his “fiber” juice,he crushes the box against his head.
- Caretaker Reversal: Barb is patient andloving with her father at all times.
- Cool Old Guy: He’s the retired king of the Rock Trolls, and even while being old,wheelchair-bound,and senile,he still knows how to rock out.
- Extraordinary World,Ordinary Problems: King Thrash is a member of a race of magical trolls in a very magical world, but he is still afflicted by senescence. He is wheelchair-bound andis implied to be going senile with his daughter needing to take care of him.
- Fog of Doom: When exiting from the restroom,Thrash has a smoke andfog show.
- Guilty Pleasure: Thrash likes Poppy’s friendly letter to his daughter andhums the “Trolls Just Wanna Have Fun” message from the card. Barb is horrified at this, and quickly tries to get his mind off it.
- Mighty Glacier: The Rock Trolls patiently wait for him to bend his fingers in the “sign of the horns”. At one point he believes he’s done it,and Riff gently flicks his old fingers up to finish the gesture.
- Mundane Made Awesome: Him exiting the bathroom is accompanied by a smoke show andfire.
- Retired Badass: He’s the former king of the volcano-living Rock trolls. On a sweet note,Barb respects him as an idol.
- Scatterbrained Senior: Thrash exhibits forgetfulness that suggests the onset of senility.
- Techno Wizard: Still in charge of the pyrotechnics of Barb’s concert .
- Wheelchair Antics: Riff backs Thrash’s wheelchair in reverse when they expect Barb to go in a fury.
- You Are Better than You Think You Are: He supports Barb through her world domination plot andis comforting, even when things don’t work out her way.
Carol
voice by: Marcella Lentz-Pope
“A girl group? Nice!”
A Rock Troll “friend” in Barb’s entourage.
- Aloof Ally: Barb insists that Carol is her friend, even though she doesn’t seem to care. She does react with excitement at the end when Barb tells her that they can form a girl group with Poppy, though.
- Lazy Backup: Like the rest of Barb’s tour; after they do Barb’s bidding, they tend to lounge about her Angler Bus.
- Trademark Favorite Food: She’s seen eating spray cheese in almost all her scenes.
Debbie the Bat
Barb’s fluffy white pet bat. She delivers mail like a messenger pigeon.

Classical Trolls
In General
- Hates Being Touched: Trollstopia shows that on the whole they don’t like hugging, even as babies, preferring to bow instead.

- Pintsized Powerhouse: They’re physically on average the smallest of all trolls but, even while flying, they can carry things many times their weight.

By the time Queen Poppy andher friends arrive,Pennywhistle is scared andtraumatized.
- Determinator: She stays behind to fix Symphonyville. Even if she is the only to do so,has no hands, and is incredibly small.
- Shrinking Violet: She is a mild-mannered,meek little flute who speaks softly andis quite scared when Poppy,Branch andBiggie arrive, even asking them if they’re nice or mean before she shows herself to them. Justified,as she was still traumatized by the Rock Trolls abducting the Classical Trolls.
- Small Role,Big Impact: She appears when Poppy arrives at the now-destroyed Symphonyville andtells her about Barb’s plans for the strings. This causes Poppy to change her plans from befriending Barb to stopping her andseeing her as a real threat. - Worthy Opponent: The K-Pop Trolls show respect to the Reggaeton Trolls after their dance battle. They’re also willing to join them in a team-up.
The Yodelers (UNMARKED SPOILERS)
“Ya darn skippy,playa-play.”click here to see their disguise form
A pair of bounty hunters who hunt inconspicuously.
- A Dick in Name: Dickory is antagonistic by circumstance, and pushy andsmug about it.
- At Arm’s Length: Immediately after their split,Hickory has to hold Dickory back in this manner to keep him from attacking Poppy.
- Becoming the Mask: Hickory slips into his Country Troll accent even after exposed. Also,he andDickory stand in the Country Troll’s section of the Rock concert arena.
- Contrasting Replacement Character: Hickory serves as a subtle one to Creek from the first Trolls film, being a charming troll who Poppy naively trusts before he betrays her. Creek is a member of Poppy’s village anda longtime friend that she’d known for years, but he turns out to be a Dirty Coward who sells out his entire village the moment his own life is in danger. Incontrast,Hickory is a foreign troll that Poppy meets on her journey to unite the troll clans andis secretly plotting against her the whole time, but he gradually has a change of heart andis genuinely remorseful when Poppy ends up captured by Barb.
- Fauxreigner: They pretend to be a Country Troll in order to track down Poppy andher group, with Hickory hiding his German accent behind a thick Southern drawl.

Clearly a faster andmore exciting option than your partner’s Boring, but Practical tunnel dig with a collapsible shovel. We also hear Hickory whoop with glee as he outruns Delta andher posse, clearly having the time of his life.
- meaningful Name :Hickory is the face of their guise as a Country Troll, while Dickory is more forceful in their mission of capturing Poppy.
- Mr. Fanservice: Hickory is significantly taller than the average two-legged Troll, and even most Country Trolls, with a very noticeable set of pecs under a leather vest with no shirt. His official character profile even describes him as “ruggedly handsome”,with “a singing voice as smooth as his saddle”.
- Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Dickory can generate enough kicking power to send Chaz hurtling off the raft andinto the water.

- Totally Radical: Dickory talks like this in a somewhat sardonic manner. “Ya darn skippy, playa play!”

King Gristle Jr.
The young king of the Bergens. He has never eaten a Pop Troll since they escaped on the day that was supposed to be his first Trollstice.

She has a crush on the young Gristle Jr.,and ends up befriending Poppy andher Snack Pack when they help her win his heart. - Angry Dance: When Gristle was being particularly insensitive in an episode of The Beat is Goes go On,she locked herself in the bathroom to dance angrily, mostly emulating Flashdance.
- Because You Were nice to Me : Poppy is was was probably the first person to ever treat Bridget with kindness by help her get close to Gristle Jr.Which made Bridget pulling a Heroic Sacrifice to save Poppy andthe other Trolls more understandable.
- Beware the Nice Ones: She is usually a friendly,if insecure,Bergen. But when Chef went to kill Poppy andBranch, she threw a spoon directly at Chef’s head. Hard.
- Big Beautiful Woman: A cutie with an apple-shaped figure. Given it is somewhat natural to all the members of her species, she’s not an exception.
- Clingy Jealous Girl: When she mistakenly thinks that Poppy is interested in Gristle Jr.,Bridget tells her to stay away from him… even making hissing noises.
- Family of Choice: By the time of the third movie, she andPoppy consider each other to be “sisters”.
- Foreshadowing: Inthe prologue, right after Gristle asks his father what will make him happy now, before Gristle Sr. replies “Nothing!”,we get a brief close-up of Bridget.
- Girlish Pigtails
- Glass Slipper: The roller skate she leaves behind as Lady Glitter Sparkle is very reminiscent of Cinderella.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Was willing to help the Trolls escape andwalk into the banquet hall Troll-less knowing she’d suffer a horrible fate for it. Luckily Poppy andthe gang come back andsave her.
- Insecure Love Interest is is : A big part is is of her never approach Gristle Jr. about her feeling for him is because she think he would never want a ” loser scullery maid ” .
- Nice Girl: Bridget is probably the friendliest Bergen of her home.
- Rags to Royalty: Goes from a plain scullery maid to Gristle’s wife. She even let’s go of her tattered apron in exchange for a royal jacket,a crown, and rainbow weaves in her hair.
- Scullery Maid: Chef makes her one, forcing her to clean all the pots anddishes in preparation for the Trollstice feast.
- Secret-Keeper: Bridget seems to have kept the fate of Branch’s grandmother andhis reasons for being unhappy a secret, even from King Gristle Jr.
- She Cleans Up Nicely: The Trolls help her get the king’s attention by giving her a makeover, which gives her the confidence to approach him. She also had this in Trolls holiday when she is given a royal jacket in place of her tattered apron anda crown andrainbow weaves in her pigtails.
- Shrinking Violet: She starts out as the shy, insecure, yet hopeful object of King Gristle Jr.’s affections, and with help from the Trolls, eventually finds true love in King Gristle,Jr.
- Token Heroic Orc : The only Bergen who is on the hero ‘ side from the very beginning .
- Tranquil Fury: Has this in Trolls holiday when Poppy pushes her too far andannoys her to the point where she politely yet firmly tells her to leave. Branch even calls this the “nicest fight ever”.
Chef
-
voice by: Christine Baranski
The former Royal Chef of the Bergens,Chef was banished from Bergen Town after the Pop Trolls escaped on Chef’s watch.
- A Dog is wait name ” Dog ” : A chef name … wait for it . ” Chef ” !
- Big Bad: Not only is Chef the Bergen who snatches the Trolls personally, but she turns out to be worse than all the other Bergens,as she’s planning to use the Trolls in order to overthrow King Gristle Jr. andkeep the Bergen population depressed,so that they would be forced to rely on her to supply them with Trolls, thus keeping her in power.
- Even Evil is Has Has standard :Despite being evil andher obsession of having every Troll eaten by her species,Chef seemed disturbed to see Cooper poop out cupcakes, after crashing their anniversary party.
- Everyone Calls Her “Barkeep”: She’s only referred to as “Chef”.
- Evil Chef: Ditto.
- The Exile: She was exiled from Bergen Town because King Gristle Sr. blamed her for the Trolls’ escape, although this is arguably unjust due to their escape being out of her power. It is ’s ’s no wonder she want to overthrow Gristle Jr.
- Freudian Excuse: Sorta. She’s obsessed with capturing the Trolls for eating and she’s planning to overthrow the king because when the Trolls first escaped, the Bergens blamed Chef for it andbanished her from the kingdom.
- The Irredeemable Exception: While most Bergens eat Trolls, they only do so because they believe they need to do so to be happy. Meanwhile,Chef tries to keep the tradition going out of pure sadism against Trolls, and is heavily implied to have butchered countless Trolls for her cookbook. When Poppy convinces all of the Bergens to stop eating Trolls andhelps them realize that they had the capability to be happy within themselves the whole time,Chef is the only one who refuse to change. When she attempts to force Gristle Jr. to eat Branch, she suffers a vicious Humiliation Conga that ends with her being launched out of the castle andeaten by a monster.
- Jerkass: She treats Bridget very badly, constantly dumping cooking materials onto her from a chute, and she has a very unpleasant personality, even for a Bergen. She’s also planning to overthrow King Gristle Jr.,and she’s the only Bergen who keeps trying to get the Trolls eaten, even after the rest of the Bergen race has given up doing that.
- Karmic Death: After Chef spent the whole movie trying to have the Trolls eaten andstraight-up rejecting Poppy’s moral,in The Stinger, she andCreek – who betrayed his own race to save himself – are eaten by a giant monster.
- Kick the Dog: After dumping more pots andpans on Bridget,Chef feels the need to tell her that she wo n’t be invite to Trollstice .
- Malicious Misnaming: She doesn’t bother to learn Bridget’s full name, only calling her “Idget”.
- manipulative Bitch : Towards King Gristle Jr.
- Mean Boss: To Bridget who she sees her as nothing but a scullery maid.
- Nice Job Fixing It,Villain: Chef killed Branch’s grandmother right in front of him when he was a child, causing him to lose his color. Later when the other Trolls lose their color after being thrown into the Trollstice pot set by Chef andthe other Bergen cooks, only Branch can help get them back on their feet because he’s been gray long enough to be able to work around the hopelessness.
- Pimped-Out Cape: She briefly wears one during the prologue andwhen she returns to Bergen Castle, combined with a High Collar of Doom.
- Red Eyes,Take Warning: She has red eyes, and is the villain of the movie.
- Slasher Smile: She does this several times throughout the movie, including when she first captures the trolls andupon manipulating her way back into becoming the Royal Chef.
- Token Evil Teammate: Unlike the other Bergens, she outright refuse to accept Poppy’s advice that you don’t need to eat a troll to be happy andit’s has been with her all along.
- Vile Villain,Saccharine Show: She’s bound anddetermined to have all the trolls eaten andkilled, has very few comedic aspects, and has no redeeming features whatsoever.
- Villainous Breakdown: She falls into one after Poppy proves that Bergens can be happy without having to eat a Troll. Since her whole plan to overthrow King Gristle Jr. revolved around using the Trolls to earn her people’s favor, she desperately tries to prove her way of being happy is the only way that works by trying to force Gristle to eat Branch. When that fails, she simply tries to kill Branch andPoppy for ruining her scheme.
King Gristle Sr .
The king of the Bergens at the opening sequence of the first movie. He’s King Gristle Jr.’s father, who was responsible for banishing Chef from Bergen Town. He was never seen again after that moment, but it’s known that he went to exile shortly after due to dissatisfaction andpressure from the Bergen public to get the Pop Trolls again.
- Actor Allusion : Just like John Cleese ‘s previous role atdreamwork as King Harold in Shrek 2 andShrek the Third,Gristle Sr. is a king with a British accent. Gristle Sr. andHarold’s respective children (Gristle Jr. andPrincess Fiona) also speak in an American accent.
- The Exile: He exiled Chef due to the Bergens being angry at her over the Pop Trolls’ escape.
- Greater-Scope Villain: Though he doesn’t have influence on any story in the franchise outside the first movie,he’s arguably responsible for causing the events in the movie’s main storyline,as he’s basically the reason why Chef is planning to overthrow his son from the throne.
- Small Role,Big Impact: He appears only in the prologue but he’s responsible for igniting the whole plot if he didn’t exile Chef she wouldn’t have turned evil andwe wouldn’t have a plot.
- Uncertain Doom: It’s unknown what happened to him after he exiled Chef. Although some presume that he died by the movie’s main events, there’s no confirmation for that.
Chad andTodd
A pair of guard in Bergen Castle .
- The Dividual: Of the Twindividual type.
- Identical Stranger: They’re not mentioned to be related, but they look completely identical asides from minor color differences (e.g.,Chad has a black hair color andTodd has a light green one). The reason for this is that they use an edited version of a single model used for the generic Bergen guards andcooks who accompany Chef.
- This was lampshaded in holiday, where Gristle fails to distinguish them to the point that he mixes up their names for a moment.
Other Species
Cloud Guy
-
voice by: Walt Dohrn
little slappy ? Make daddy happy ?
An anthropomorphic cloud who’s always heckling Branch.
- Ascended Extra: Inthe first movie,he only appears in two scenes to warn Branch andPoppy about the location of the Bergens. The series turns him into a reccuring character.
- Big Shadow,Little Creature: Parodied. His first appearance has him speak with a deep voice but he reveals himself to be a small cloud hiding in his surroundings.
- Deadpan Snarker: Shows some of this in the special “Travel Through Troll Village”.
- The Friend Nobody Likes: Branch especially hates him. Even Poppy at the end of the movie started to think he was annoying, even though it changes in Trolls holiday.
- The Gadfly: The series shows that he really enjoy mess with Branch .
- Great Gazoo: Inthe movie he’s just a mischievous,self-proclaimed agent of chaos that particularly liked to mess with Branch. InThe Beat is Goes go On his feats progress from the logical – like being Made of Air andcontrolling the weather – to the outright supernatural like Self-Duplication,object creation andteleportation.
- Moment Killer: He interrupts Branch andPoppy’s hug time at the end of the first movie.
- Prank Gone Too Far: This is the way he aims his pranks to be like. He’ll search for any character who gets annoyed by him,and will constantly hit their Berserk Button.
- Red Oni,Blue Oni: He’s even more of a red oni to Branch’s blue oni than Poppy is.
- Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Next to Creek in the TV series,Branch considers him his arch nemesis. It seems one-sided as Cloud Guy just likes to mess with him for kicks.
- Too Dumb to Live: Joined in on the Trolls’ dance andmusical number on the very same bus he was driving.
- Visual Pun: He’s a guy who like to mess with Branch for fun,i.e: trolling a literal troll.
Velvet andVeneer
A brother-sister popstar duo from Mount Rageous who faked their way to stardom by stealing Floyd’s talent.
trope that apply to both :
- Alliterative Family: Velvet andVeneer.
- Ambitious, but Lazy: Velvet openly admits to a captured Floyd that she andher brother can’t be bothered putting in effort to improve their skills andactually earn the fame andriches that they desire, and find that stealing talent from trolls is a much more appealing shortcut to success.
- Attention Whore: Their whole thing is that they are influencers who try to make themselves look like the center of it all for fame, money, and power.
- Bad Boss: They treat their assistant Crimp horribly.
- Big Bad Duumvirate: They are the main antagonists of Band Together.
- Corrupted Character Copy: Velvet, and by extension Veneer, are visually reminiscent of Betty Spaghetty dolls, being super thin andsuper bendy with a rubbery-plastic appearance.
- Did n’t think This Through : The duo plot to capturebrozone in order to use their talent for themselves, but it proves to be an extremely short-sighted scheme in hindsight. As shown with Floyd,a troll’s talent is not easily replenishable andthey’ll eventually die from having it constantly drained. Meaning that, even if they’d only used one at a time, all the brozone siblings would have eventually perished under their use,and Velvet andVeneer would be back to square one.
- entitle Bastard : Dialogue is suggests from Veneer suggest that they both think they deserve to be famous purely because they want it .
- High Hopes,Zero Talent: Zig-zagged. They both want to be a pair of celebrities in a pop-star singing duo, especially Velvet, and actually are talented performer who can dance andwork a stage, but they have absolutely zero talent for singing themselves, leading to their evil plan to kidnap trolls andsteal their own talented abilities.
- Mana Drain: They steal the talent from trolls anddon’t really care if they die or at least Velvet doesn’t. Veneer makes a Heel–Face Turn andconfesses their crimes to the populace of Mount Rageous.
- Never Gets Fat: If the real flashback to their childhood is any indication, they ate a lot of sugary sweets when they were kids judging by the sugary cereal with a plate full of donuts on the side. Despite this, they remain really thin in both the flashback andthe present day.
- Non-Standard Character Design: Unlike the trolls andthe non-troll characters such as the Bergens,Velvet andVeneer are more humanoid andhave the appearances of characters from a 1930’s cartoon. As a matter of fact, the rest of their kind has the same thing.
- Noodle People: Velvet,Veneer, and other members of their kind have really skinny bodies with flexible noodle-like limbs.
- power by a Forsaken child : They is built build their entire career on torture a troll with plan to kidnap more to torture .
- Spoiled Brat: A brief flashback to their childhood shows the pair pigging out on sweets, and a young Velvet throwing a tantrum over feeling “attacked” when their father simply asked how their day at school was. It’s clear from this that Velvet andVeneer grew up coddled andpampered by their parents, explaining why they feel so entitled to fame andriches in the present.
- Succubi andIncubi: They are explicitly stated to be succubi, but they are kid-friendly versions of such. Instead of feeding on sex andlust, they steal talent.
- Surprisingly Normal Backstory: Velvet implies during a Motive Rant that their desire for fame comes from her andVeneer growing up in poverty, but Veneer then clarifies that they actually grew up in the suburbs andtheir parents were dentists.
Tropes that apply to Velvet:
- Ambitious, but Lazy: She wants fame andglory, but is completely unwilling to put in the work required to get it,even mocking Veneer’s suggestion that they actually practice before a show.
- Big Bad: Of troll : Band Together. While she andher brother Veneer are a duo,Velvet is clearly the driving force, having devised the plan to capture brozone andtake their talent. Veneer contributes far less, and mainly goes along with this scheme out of loyalty to his sister, and for the various riches andawards that he gets out of it.
- Big Sister Bully: An emotional example. Though she’s rarely physically violent with Veneer,Velvet frequently manipulates andbelittles her brother into going along with her plans, and Veneer is clearly too scared of his sister to contradict or stand up to her.
- Drama Queen: Ina flashback, when a teenage Velvet is asked by her dad how her day was,she slams her hands down, yells,”STOP ATTACKING ME!” andflips the table.
- Evil Counterpart: She is this to John Dory. They both bossed andpressured their young siblings to change themselves for their career. But while John Dory only resorted to harsh, but well-meaning constructive criticism to be perfect,Velvet flat-out mocks any of Veneer’s concerns andsuggestions while emotionally blackmailing him to go along with her plans.
- Greed: Velvet examples this as she suggests an encore during the climax, which Veneer had second thoughts of as it would deplete Floyd’s magic andkill him. He tries to change her mind andstop her,but Velvet venomously refuse to do so anddemands him to sing, instead wanting to use all the power to herself.
velvet : You guys is want want a encore ?
Veneer: An encore? Sis,come on! This one won’t even last you half a song, let’s just quit while we’re on top!
Velvet: ( anger ) JUST sing, you beautiful idiot!
- Kick the Dog: While the duo both treat Crimp poorly,Velvet doesn’t hesitate to insult their assistant every chance she gets,to the point of acting as if Crimp’s very existence is a drain on hers.
- Lazy Bum: She never does anything for herself; when Floyd attempts an escape, she insists that Veneer alone chase after him.
- Pet the Dog: Velvet helps Veneer up after he recaptures Floyd, which is probably the only time she was genuinely being nice.
- Pragmatic Villainy: When Branch andPoppy crash their award concert to rescue the brozone members,Velvet andVeneer quickly get back in their car anddrive away. Rather than risk raising suspicion from the public,Velvet announces that she andVeneer are literally taking the show on the road, turning the resulting car chase into a musical number. Until Veneer’s confession andthe pair’s subsequent arrest, the rest of the city watching are none the wiser that this incident wasn’t planned for the performance.
- Self-Serving Memory: When Veneer expresses doubt in continuing their scheme,Velvet tries to remind him of how they grew up in “a dark place where [they] had nothing”,even showing an Imagine Spot of their young selves reenacting Oliver Twist. One of the few times Veneer talks back to his sister is to remind her that this wasn’t the case at all andthey actually grew up rich.
- Toxic Family Influence: Velvet is a terrible influence on Veneer,as she forces him to act like her, which ends up destroying his true self. It takes Floyd’s advice andwitnessing Velvet’s greed for Veneer to realize how toxic his sister truly is.
- Ungrateful Bitch: Crimp built the twins special devices that allow them to directly absorb the talent from their captive. This doesn’t stop Velvet from throwing Crimp in a closet andfiring her soon after.
Tropes that apply to Veneer:
- Ambiguously Gay: Similar to Floyd,he wears an earring on his right ear, which typically indicates homosexuality. On top of that,he’s incredibly flamboyant, even wear makeup. Both Andrew Rannells andFher Soberanes, his voice actor in the LatAm dub,are gay in real life. He doesn’t show attraction to anyone in the movie, though.
- Anime Hair: His hair is styled into a pompadour.
- Anti-Villain: Unlike Velvet,Veneer’s not really a bad guy, only really going along with the scheme out of misguided love for his sister. He’s greatly hesitant to drain Floyd of his talent, knowing it will eventually kill him,and ultimately pulls a Heel–Face Turn by the end of the movie by confessing to his andVelvet’s crimes.
- Conflicting Loyalties: He becomes confused in his loyalty towards Velvet andhis growing care for Floyd,as Floyd is the first person to have treated him with kindness andnot only gives him insight about how his sister treats him,but some wise advice about being true to himself. However,Veneer chose his loyalty to Velvet but ends up regretting it,especially when he realizes that his sister doesn’t care about him andthat Floyd was not only right about her,but was right about him.
- Even Evil is Has Has standard :Veneer was very reluctant to drain Floyd completely of his talent knowing it would kill him, pointing out that Velvet would be sacrificing him for nothing — “This one will only last you half a song!” — andhe panicked when Floyd was faking being dead. At the end,he confesses Velvet andhis crimes to Mount Rageous’ population, and he tells his sister off after she accuses him that she doesn’t know him.
- Graceful Loser: Though he’s initially confused when he still gets arrested, once it’s pointed out to him that his Heel Realization doesn’t undo the various crimes he committed,Veneer concedes it as a fair point andis taken away with a smile on his face.
- Grew a Spine: Veneer finally stands up to Velvet by admitting to their crimes in front of everyone watching theirs andthe Trolls performances andtells her that being true to yourself is more important then changing yourself for others, especially family.
- Heel Realization: Throughout the film,Floyd frequently tries to appeal to Veneer’s better nature, telling him that he doesn’t have to be submissive to Velvet andgo along with her scheme. During the climax,Veneer finally has a change of heart andpublicly confesses to his andVelvet’s crimes.
- InTouch with His Feminine Side: Wears makeup, jewelry,is somewhat sensitive, and has quite a bit of girlish body language.
- Meaningful Name:
- Veneer is a type of fine wood, and normally is used for decoration, which hints at his weak personality andhow Velvet always bosses him around.
- “Veneer” also refers to something that hides something unpleasant or unwanted; just like how he andVelvet have zero talent without stealing it from trolls.
- Veneer is also a type of cosmetic dental treatment, where the front surface of damaged teeth is covered with porcelain caps to hide the decay underneath. This not only ties to the duo’s aforementioned facade, but Veneer himself also mentions at one point that their parents were dentists.
- My God,What Have I Done?: Seeing Velvet still wanting to perform with just Floyd andbeing on the verge of losing the last of his life,Veneer realizes the damage he has done, especially when he realizes the trouble his actions have caused to both the Trolls andhimself.
- Pet the Dog : He is compliment does compliment Crimp for her good work in make the shoulder pad .
- Reformed, but Rejected: He’s still arrested for his crimes despite repenting andbeing forgiven by Floyd. He did willingly go with Velvet’s plan andengage in trollnapping, troll torture, fraud andtax evasion as Crimp andClay point out. Nonetheless,he is okay with going to prison andgetting his boat repossessed.
- Shut Up,Hannibal!: He tells off Velvet when she tells him it was like she doesn’t even know him after he exposed their fraudulent crimes to the public, and points out that she was the one who wanted him to change, and says it wasn’t okay for them whether they’re family or not.
- Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: He learns that just confessing to his crimes andregretting them doesn’t mean he’s immune to criminal punishment.

- Defrosting Ice Queen: Over the course of the series, she becomes progessively friendlier to be around, but it’s downplayed in the sense that because of who she is,she has problems time to time opening up to the others. However, she doesn’t mind becoming a better person when she realizes TrollsTopia is allowing her to become more open-minded.
- Fake Ultimate Hero: In”Hopscotch Extreme”,Demo andthe other Rock Trolls hype Val up as the world’s greatest hopscotch player. Val then confides in Poppy andHolly that she only succeeded one time by accident anddoesn’t actually know how to play, and after some botched attempts at training, she ultimately confesses to the lie.
- Fatal Flaw: Her guarded attitude andinsistence on being tough leads Val to refuse help or fail to express her feelings, leading to many misunderstandings andarguments with the other members of TrollsTopia.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: The “Jerk” part is kind of pushing it,but she can be brash andrude at times, though she has grown a lot nicer since the move.
- Leeroy Jenkins: She tends to act on impulse andbecome overconfident on occasion, likely stemming from her Hard Rock attitude.
- Non-Standard Character Design: Played With. While not out of place with the general designs of the franchise,Val dresses in brighter colors andhas a vibrant light blue skin tone, starkly contrasting with the other Rock Trolls’ more muted color palettes andaesthetics. This is especially apparent with her CGI design in holiday InHarmony, where her softer, rounder features are more akin to a Pop Troll, which is especially blatant when she’s standing alongside Barb.
- The Prankster: She enjoys pranking andfinds it amusing to throw other Trolls off just by messing with them.
- Tomboy: She’s a Hard Rock Troll who dislikes anything girly,sentimental,and mushy…
