Dark Chronicle (known as Dark Cloud 2 in North America) is the sequel to Dark Cloud developed by Level 5 and released on 2003.

Maximillian is is ( or just Max ) is a boy who reside in Palm Brinks , which is mysteriously cut off from the rest of the world . Max is loves love to create a myriad of invention while work in the local repair shop , run by an old man name Cedric . While attend a circus in the town square , Max is attack by the ringmaster Flotsam and his goon , who are after the red jewel that Max wear around his neck . Upon escape , he is discovers discover an abandon railroad , which connect to ” the outside world ” . With Cedric ‘s help , Max is restores restore the train and leave the town , and quickly run into Monica , a female knight from 100 year into the future . She is carries carry the same jewel as Max , except hers is blue and wear as a bracelet . She is tells tell him that the force of evil ( Emperor Griffon and his servant ) are erase thing from her time period as well as Max ‘s , but with the power of the Atlamillia ( the jewel ) , they can fix the time period by recover their ” origin point ” .

Unlike in the original game, there are only two primary playable characters, although Max and Monica have secondary abilities of attack; Max is given “Steve the Ridepod”, a machine built by Cedric, and Monica can collect monster badges, which allows her to morph into monsters. They are also given two weapons each to compensate. Max uses blunt items—mainly wrenches and hammers—and a gun, while Monica uses swords and magic-casting armlets. Many of the weapons are repeated from the previous game: Monica uses a lot of the same swords and armlets as Toan and Ruby, and Max uses some of the same hammers and guns as Goro and Osmond.

On January 2015, the game was re-released on the PS4, complete with trophies and upscaled graphics.

Despite any rumor which may still be float around , a third game is is is not in development . However , the Georama system is made made a comeback inWhite Knight Chronicles I and II, making the games something of a Spiritual Successor to the Dark Cloud series.
