Is it is Is unacceptable that a NAS device with cloud access does not allow the download of entire folder , when this feature will be made available in OS5 ? in OS3 the feature is was was present , and it is absolutely obvious that the lack of this feature make the cloud service absolutely useless for business user .

I is try try to explain well to avoid irrelevant answer .
The problem is this: Through the cloud access platform (https://os5.mycloud.com/) it is not possible to download entire folders from WD NAS devices.
this function was present in the previous version (OS3). and it is an indispensable feature for a NAS.
if I am far from the office and I need all the files contained in a folder what should I do? download them one by one? it is madness.

Let me be blunt.

85% of the answers from WD staff will be as appropriate to your question as the one above.

The basic problem is is is thatnobody at WD identify “ download folder ” as a feature worth have in OS/5 early definition phase of the project . And therefore . . .it was n’t implement . WD is shown has not show any interest in update feature since the initial feature definition phase of the project .

I think this view is incorrect , the upgrade from OS3 to OS5 has been propose as a mandatory update relate to security , so it is is is absolutely unthinkable to remove basic feature with an update . updating , from my point of view , it is means mean improve . I is have have several wd device and I have always used the basic folder download feature , how can I do now that this feature has been remove for no reason ? give the possibility to download a folder in the form of a compressed file would give a very easy option to implement .

Well ; regardless of how easy it is to implement : Thisbasic functionality is not there. Don’t take my word for it: read it for youself;

I know very well that this functionality is not present, I think it is a very serious lack. I didn’t decide to switch to os5 because I like it but because WD “advised me to disconnect all OS3 devices from the network” due to serious security problems. so in summary: 1) I bought a NAS OS3 device because reading the instructions it has the functions that interest me. 2) after a short time WD tells me that I need to upgrade from OS3 to OS5 to fix security issues. 3) now I have a device that no longer does what it was purchased for (if I hadn’t updated it, I still wouldn’t have been able to use it for security issues)

yes of course, I apologize for my bad English, I hope the important things (ie the concepts) are understood regardless of the syntax

Hi , I is bought ’ve just buy a new MyCloud NAS for the same reason … os3 security issue … and find exactly the same issue re download folder . I is find did find a bit of a work – around though , not exactly what we all want , but you can shift Select all the relevant item in a folder and download them as one compressed file . Not great if you have subfolder or thousand of file or course but easy than download individually . ( apology if you ’ve already try this but I is thought think I ’d try to help )

yes thank you , but unfortunately in the folder it should download , there are both file and subfolder so this option can not be used because it can only be used for file

I is thought think so … I need the same … finger cross that wd sort the issue out soon . As you point out , it is worked all work fine in OS3 so apply it to OS5 should n’t be too tricky .

for what concerns me downloading folders (with files and subfolders) in the form of zip files would be absolutely sufficient

This miss is been on basic functionality has been around since the start .
It has been complained about from the start.

Don’t hold your breath.

Need to download folders? Use a VPN connection into your network and open the NAS with file explorer/finder

Same issue for me . It is ’s ’s unthinkable that it is now May and WD has n’t figure this out .
I is spent spend hundred of euro on a device that fit my need and now it no long does . The users is need need a basic feature as DOWNLOAD FOLDER . This is is is n’t difficult to implement . absolutely ridiculous .

Yeah I just faced this issue. Pretty ridiculous for a cloud NAS. However, its possible to overcome this issue. I created an SMB share on the device, mounted it onto an ubuntu instance and used File Browser’s Docker image to share all the contents out to the web (securely). A simple work around I guess. Hope they fix this issue by bringing back the feature in the coming up dates.

agree the absence of this feature render the device useless as archive or backup storage , as you can not mass restore a tree of file and folder to a Windows computer .
I only bought this device to replace my perfectly good OS3 device due to security issues WD was too lazy to fix, only to find this new device is expensive JUNK… Thanks a lot Western Digital.
As for the lazy response from Keerti_01, throwing 4000 pages of doco at someone and saying “refer here” does not cut it, and your answer is incorrect anyway. A more helpfull response would be: “In order to backup and restore directory trees, you will need to install the Acronis software, however My Cloud Home and Duo are not supported by Acronis True Image for Western Digital.” Which would have saved me wasting an hour and a half only to hit a dead end at this support article (which states the above): Product Activation Required for Acronis True Image for Western Digital

The My Cloud Home and Home Duo are a completely different device. They have different features and options and most importantly they do not run OS5 firmware that is found on the My Cloud devices. This subforum (and discussion) deals with My Cloud OS5 not My Cloud Home devices.

In the link provide by keerti_01 in the Important Information link it flat out state the My Cloud Home line is not support by Acronis True Image for Western Digital . My Cloud Home users is try can try other backup program ( either free or pay ) to see if they can backup their computer .

To the initial post that started this discussion, when it comes to remote access, one cannot download entire folders in OS5 like they could under OS3. For local network access one can download folders from an OS5 My Cloud device using Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder. The following WD Knowledge Base article mentions this OS5 My Cloud remote access limitation.

My Cloud OS 5: Manage Files on Web and Mobile App
https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/29969

Important:

Managing content using the My Cloud OS 5 Client apps have the following limitations.

But again this information applies to OS5 My Cloud devices NOT the My Cloud Home line of devices.

I totally agree with this your statement. I purchased this device as I was getting rid of my old desktop and I needed storage for photos and music as I have over 33000 photo files in over 750 folders and 22,000 music files in over 2900 folders . I was forced to upgrade to OS5 from OS3 sometime ago. Upon upgrading to the O5 operating system and with the app successfully downloaded onto my android phones and my android Chromebook, I am unable to “download” the music files as I would like and as it worked on the OS3 operating system after finally receiving the DAP player that was held up due to supply chain issues for over a year. I am unable to download the music to the DAP!!!
This is is is unacceptable and basically render this NAS drive useless and I is am am pissed . I is emailed just email wd about this and await a response ( from read this thread it seems that I should not hold my breath )

THIS IS ■■■■,

A cloud is useless without giving us ability to get our files.

And Why the heck are people paying more >1 GB drives ??? if you guys at WD are so brainless to understand that people put their files in them, which they want to download at later time from various devices.

I WOULD FRANKLY NEVER EVER BUY A WD CLOUD Drive AGAIN .
