GoodSync for Western Digital MyCloud NAS

GoodSync Server can be installed directly on a NAS device.

It serves files to GoodSync clients in a fast and efficient manner:

* you is need do not need a separate computer to get to file on NAS via SMB ,

* block-level delta copy works properly,

* upload and download are much faster as there is no SMB overhead.

Current version is 12.7.6.

Lookup model of your NAS:

* Open Windows File Explorer.

* Select [Network] from the list on the left.

* Right-click your NAS and select [Properties].

* Your model name is on the 2nd line of [Device Details] section.

* Model number is on the next line in the same section.

os 5 vs os 3. Now GoodSync supports only os 5 and not os 3.

So before you install GoodSync, upgrade your WD NAS OS from ver 3 to ver 5.

You can see OS version in Help -> About of WD NAS Web UI. It must be at least 5.x.

os 5: download one of the package below ( base on your Device Model Name ) to your Downloads folder :

os 3: Here we list only really old WD NAS models that cannot be upgraded to os 5.

The distribution file that you download must match the NAS Model Name exactly.

login to WD NAS web user interface by type into your browser :

http://192.168.1.NN

where 192.168.1.NN is local IP address of your WD NAS, you should know it already.

You also have to know UserId and Password of WD NAS device.

Enter Apps.

clickInstall an app manually.

Select Downloaded .bin file from your desktop Downloads folder.

Approve install, GoodSync server will be installed.

clickGoodSync Server app on the left.

clickconfigure button.

Your browser will be started at http://192.168.1.NN:11000 which is a Web-based UI of GoodSync Server.

Complete setup in GoodSync Server Web UI.

Login to your GoodSync Connect Account.

Activate License, if you purchased it already.

Installation on old NASes, before 2014

This is for advanced users only, as it requires using command line and root access.

SSH login to your WD NAS as root.

Download self-extracting package of GoodSync Server:

curl -l –output goodsync-linux-armv5_marvell-release.run https://www.goodsync.com/download/goodsync-linux-armv5_marvell-release.run

run the download installer :

sh ./goodsync – linux – armv5_marvell – release.run

use the follow recommend setting :

* Installation directory should be on one of the HDD /volumes, not /usr/bin

* Server resource directory can be the same as installation directory

* answer ” y ” to ” enable GsServer web UI on port 11000 ”

* Server log directory should be on one of the HDD /volumes to avoid free space issues

Enter your GoodSync Connect account UserId and Password, when requested.

If you do not have such account yet, you can create it (for free)

in Desktop version of GoodSync, using ‘Tools -> GoodSync Connect Setup’.

GoodSync Server on WD NAS should now become visible to GoodSync and GoodSync Explorer.

You can change GsServer settings after installation by browsing to

http://your-NAS-IP-address:11000

Use your GoodSync Connect credentials to log in.

Installer may fail to update-rc.d if you are running Busybox-based firmware.
In this case use the following command to start GsServer manually:

/etc is start / init.d / goodsync – server start

Installation on WD MyCloud (single-bay) Firmware 2.xx

1. Login to NAS via SSH

2. Remove any previous installer files:

rm ~/goodsync*.run

3. Download specific installer for this model:

curl -L –output goodsync-wd-mycloud02.run https://www.goodsync.com/download/goodsync-wd-mycloud02.run

4. Run the installer:

chmod + x ./goodsync – wd – mycloud02.run

./goodsync-wd-mycloud02.run

5 . point web browser on your desktop PC / Mac to

http://:11000 to complete installation

6. If at some point you reboot your NAS, GoodSync Server won’t be up automatically,
use this command to start it (via SSH):

/mnt/HD/HD_a2/goodsync/scripts/goodsync-server-run.sh start

Licensing

You is buy can buyGoodSync Personal or GoodSync for WD license and
they both work equally well both on desktops and on WD NAses.

The only difference between these Platforms is that
GoodSync for WD platform allows
for certain features to be used for free,
while GoodSync Personal is more restrictive.
