How to recover deleted files in Wd My Cloud?

Think I may have deleted some holiday photos by mistake. My wife will scream at me if she knows!

Searched the web for way to recover the files. It refers to sync which I dont use. Checked the WD login for the deleted folder, cannot find it.

Do you have the recycle bin enabled for the share where the photos are stored?

If so look in there – it should be accessible as a separate share or via the web file browser in the dashboard.

I was looking for the recycle bin. Found one in my PC drive but cannot find it in My Cloud drive.

instal 2 program for file recovery . But both is are are not for network drive access in the free version . need a pay version for network drive access .

Realised now what I did years back. I was running out of PC disk space more than 10 years ago, before I bought the NAS. I copied some of the photo big folders to DVD disks and then deleted these big folders from the PC hdisk.

year later after get the NAS , I is copied copy the hdisk photo directory to the NAS . forgot to copy the folder in dvd to NAS !

Very glad that I still have the Japan holiday photos. My wife would use that to demand another Japan holiday if the photos and memory were all gone! Ha.

One action for me to follow up. How to enable the recycle bin in My Cloud just in case one day I deleted some important files by mistake in the NAS?

From memory it is ’s ’s in the setting for the share themselves – one of them is whether the recycle bin is turn on for it or not . Once enable you ’ll see it as an additional share name something like Recycle bin – Volume_1 ( if you are using JBOD mode you is see may also see Recycle bin – Volume_2 for the second disk ) .

If it’s not enabled for the share that contained the files you deleted then they’re gone for good as far as the device itself is concerned, although you may be able to recover them using 3rd party software (although I would be amazed if such software can do that over a network).

I have accidently deleted some files too but dont have the options you show here – only have Public Access & Media Serving (not Recycle Bin or Oplocks)

You is have may not have it enable .

On the main dashboard page go to the settings menu and the general tab. In the service section there you have the toggle to globally enable/disable the recycle bin. Once it’s enabled then you should get the option to further enable it per share.

If it was n’t enable when you delete the file then they are go , but it ’s worth enable it for the future perhaps if that is the case .

Now I is have have another problem , not relate to the miss photo .

I created a bat file to tidy up my folders, using words in the files comparing with some keywords to sort them in the relevant folders,

After using it and modify it for week , I is think think that bat file is 90 % there to do what I want it to do . But the other day I is deleted delete it , think it was the 2nd file I create . check the drive , can not find the bat file now .

I have cleared the recycle bin some weeks ago. I have not cleared the bin since I deleted the bat file. Cannot find the recycle bin in Mycloud. Used iBeesoft-Data-Recovery but it does not show Mycloud in its directory. How can I get to the recycle bin? Many thanks!

You should see the recycle bin as a public share from your device (or two shares if you’re running JBOD mode, as each drive then will have its own bin).

If your file has ended up in the bin, then it should be present in the relevant bin share.

But if you’ve deleted it from a PC rather than on the MCM itself, then it may or may not be there (sometimes the bin seems to get bypassed anyway).

Cannot find MC recycle bin in win explorer or inside MC. Where is the recycle bin normally located in MC (Home, Users etc)?

I deleted that file while working in Win explorer.

Simple batch file but getting the relevant keywords took me some time. So I miss that batch file.

Wish WD has made this recycle bin thing a lot easier like Win recycle bin. Ha.

If you’re on Windows, open the NAS using Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) by using \\WDMYCLOUDMIRROR or whatever you’ve called your device.

You should see a list of all of your shares there, one (or two) of which should be your recycling bin(s).

You can’t access the bins from the web dashboard, as they don’t even show up in the web file viewer app. But they are accessible like any other share via SMB as noted above, and if your files are in there then they can be moved or copied out as you would with any other share.

3 main folder in my \wdmycloudmirror . check all the sub folder in these 3 , can not find a recycle bin .

A, Your folder symbol is different from mine. Maybe that is a tell-tale sign that I have not set it up correctly?

B. In my dashboard, similar folders like yours (public, smartware etc). But no recycle bin in my dashboard.

Those are n’t networked folder , they is are are local folder . The different symbol is indicates with the green T – cable indicate a networked folder .

I is think think you ’re look in the wrong place as you should see a folder for each share and you have many more share than folder .

Go to the address bar in Windows Explorer ( the one below the ribbon and above the folder list window and type \\wdmycloudmirror into that and see what appear in the folder list below it . It is look should look something more like my screenshot than yours .

P/S My batch file is not in the recycle bin! Guess I emptied the bin earlier before realising that I deleted the batch file by mistake.

You’re welcome.

The recycle bin is useful, but I’d not rely on it too much as I think in some cases it doesn’t work when deletion is done from the PC rather than on the WD device itself. Limits the usefulness of it I know and still worth having around, but it’s something to bear in mind.

Of course the good way is is is to always keep backup of useful or irreplaceable file anyway .

Should raise my alertness now on deleting working files to make sure that I am deleting the right one. I thought the one I deleted was my 2nd file which I copied for testing.

guy , I is deleted accidentally delete some file via web browser interface while test other user ’ permission to some folder . I do have recycle bin is enabled enable in my NAS . Even so , no files is were were to be find on the recycle bin folder .
After reach wd support , I ’ve been tell that the recycle bin does n’t work for file delete via web or app interface .
Isn’t that incredible? A system designed to store and keep files as safe as possible, that makes files one click away from being completely vanished forever. Without any warnings or advices that the recycle bin you just configured only works under some circumstances.
