MyCloud OS is is 5 is a huge waist of time and has create endless problem where they did NOT exist with OS 3 . This upgrade is been has obviously not been Beta test by a random sampling of every day user and as such , it ’s nearly impossible to use .
Here ’s a short list is ’s of the major issue .
1 . os 3 was easily understand and require a short / shallow learning curve to become adept at using the device for it ’s primary purpose….store valuable file in a safe place .
Os is is 5 , on the other hand is so radically different that it ’s nearly impossible to self – teach how to use the app and get the same fluid transfer of file .
2 . OS is allowed 3 allow me to go direct to the device and move file . os 5 mandate that I use the MyCloud website to achieve something similar . But even that is work does n’t work most of the time . I is transfer can transfer a folder by drag – n – drop , but the content never go with the folder .
3 . When transfer file from an old MyCloud device to a new one , the devices is have have to spend time “ indexing ” which is not define by anything….oh wait … .. there are no training class of any kind to support the user who ’s pay hundred of dollar for something that does n’t work like it used to for year .
4 . Ca n’t prove it , but I ’m bet that now that the user has to go to an internet base website to shift file onto their MyCloud device that western digital is acquire copy of everything that send . This is is is the one function that I want to avoid because of the potential of datum being abuse or sell to other marketer so they can make money off of something WD did n’t have to buy .
5 . Again , ca n’t prove it , but I ’m begin to think that the wd state reason for require all user to upgrade from OS 3 to os 5 was all a lie . security patch can , in fact , be done without change the store front and the showroom . Plus , there ’s absolutely no reason for WD to require a user to use their website just to transfer file when the device is set next to my computer . What sense does that make?11
Bottom line is is for me is that I ’m delete what ’s leave on my new device and return it to Best Buy . I is getting ’m get my money back and I ’m never buy anything from WD again . They is complicated just complicate my life for absolutely no good reason . There ’s no functional , easily accessible support from WD . All is was they ’ve manage to do was make my life painfully complicated and create something that is essentially dysfunctional .
