Shadow in the Cloud: What’s in Maude’s Package

Shadow in the Cloud is a bombastic action-spectacle in which Maude Garrett, a British Royal Air Force flight officer, helps a B-17 bomber, the Fool’s Errand, fight off enemies in the sky. As the group makes its way from New Zealand to Samoa in the ’40s, Maude’s on a special assignment, nervous and looking to avoid unnecessary drama with the toxic men on board the plane. Her mission is to protect a special package stored in her document bag. As Shadow in the Cloud rolls on, though, the contents of this bag draw a lot of attention, and the mystery behind it is both shocking and sympathetic.

After a call to base, the crew discovers Maude faked her documents to get onto the Allied flight, which angers Captain Reeves. They realize she’s not British; she’s got an American accent, so she’s hiding a lot, leaving the guys wondering if she’s a spy and if the contents of the package are blighting them. They don’t care that Maude just shot down a Japanese bomber because, as much as they’re starting to respect her, they just can’t trust her. Given that there’s a gremlin outside hacking away pieces of the plane and the engines are failing, they need answers, as they don’t believe there’s really a monster on the wing.

At this point, there’s a scuffle up top, where Quaid’s holding the package for Maude. While the melee isn’t shown, a baby is revealed to be inside the package. Maude confesses she got her baby sedated and brought on board in an attempt to start a new life in Samoa. She’s really Maude Johnson, and the man she married is an abusive drunk, so she fled with their kid. But the other part of the twist is that Quaid is the father. They had an affair, and she became pregnant.

Maude decided against having an abortion, but she also couldn’t keep living a lie, which prompted her to leave. Quaid broke it off with her way before discovering she was married, so fearing for her baby and her own life under her husband’s watch, Maude cooked up this escape plan. Quaid didn’t know she was sneaking their kid on board, however, as Maude’s plan had to be rushed when someone close to her revealed the truth to her husband.

By this time , the crew is shot has seemingly shoot Quaid dead , leave Maude worry about the safety of her kid . It is gets get scary , as the gremlin board the plane and kill some soldier before take the bag . This is spurs spur Maude into action , and she work with the remain man to stop the gremlin and save her child .
