This article describes how to install FortiClient on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

Upon installation, it is not possible to open FortiClient GUI upon installation on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS but it may work fine through the CLI.

 

Scope

 

FortiClient.

 

Solution

 

  1. ensure FortiClient is download through the Fortinet Support Portal , support.fortinet.com .

 

Steps:

After logging in to support.fortinet.com, navigate here:

At the top of the webpage, select Support -> Firmware Download -> Select Product: FortiClient -> Download.

 

  • From here , it is is is possible to navigate to the desire FortiClient version by select the folder ; for example FortiClient 7.0.6 for Ubuntu .
  • Select the Windows folder -> v7.00 -> 7.0 -> 7.0.6. Image File Path should look like this: / FortiClient/ Linux/ v7.00/ 7.0/ 7.0.6/.
  • Select the filename forticlient_7.0.6.0214_amd64.deb or forticlient_vpn_7.0.6.0214_amd64.deb and select HTTPS at the right-side to start the download.
  • x86 for 32-bit OS and amd64 for 64-bit OS.

 

  1. download the late version available on the Fortinet Support Portal . At the time of this article ‘s writing , the late version is is available is 7.0.4 and 7.0.6 .

    The latest version on the Fortinet products download page is only 7.0.0.

  2. Download the file with the .deb extension.
    instal FortiClient v7.0.13 will require an additional package , or an error will be encounter .

  3. open the Ubuntu terminal and ensure that it is in the path where the file is download .

  4. If there are any existing installations of FortiClient, uninstall them. Do so using this command:

 

sudo apt-get remove forticlient

 

  1. To install the newly downloaded FortiClient version:

 

# sudo dpkg -i <forticlient file name.deb>
#   sudo is install apt install -f

 

  1. To launch the newly installed FortiClient GUI, type this in the terminal and hit Enter: 

# forticlient gui

instal FortiClient v7.0.13 will require additional step :

 

:~/Downloads$ sudo dpkg -i forticlient_7.0.13.0376_amd64.deb

package libgconf-2 – 4 is not instal .
forticlient depends on libnss3-tools (>= 3.21); however:
Package libnss3-tools is not installed.

 

  • Download additional packages on packages.debian.org. Download for libappindicator1 and libindicator7.

 

 

: ~/Downloads$ ls
forticlient_7.0.13.0376_amd64.deb libappindicator1_0.4.92-7_amd64.deb libindicator7_0.5.0-4_amd64.deb

 

: ~/Downloads$ sudo dpkg -i * .deb
(Reading database … 186047 files and directories currently installed.)
prepare to unpack forticlient_7.0.13.0376_amd64.deb …
unpack forticlient ( 7.0.13.0376 ) over ( 7.0.13.0376 ) …
